AMEN!!!!!!!! Why don't us LEGAL citizens have our own march and protest the ILLEGALS-THAT would definately shut down our economy!! I'm ready when every one else is!! Let's show our government who really rules-the LEGAL citizens of America!

I am a Citizen:Therefore I have to have a Social Security # in order to work.That of course means I pay taxes to MY government.That also means my employer has to pay 1/2 of my Social Security taxes.
The illegals have no Social Security#.So of course they or their employers don't have to pay anything.So our citizens that hire them are illegal also.

Laws were made to be broken. But if you get caught you pay the price. Deport anyone who is here illegally from any country. This issue should not be just about people from Mexico.

Also there are not any Native Americans. They came from someplace else and were the first to arrive.

That's not the issue. The question that people keep missing is "how SEVERE is the law-breaking"?

Is it equivalent to a speeding ticket or driving without insurance? So, pay a fine, get it recorded on your record, and either stop speeding or get insurance so you are not continuing to break the law?

Or should it be equivalent to grand theft or aggravated assault, thus making it a felony and grounds for much harsher punishment and loss of future rights?

BTW, we can change the laws. It's called the legislative process. And if we make something that was illegal no longer illegal, we're not making it OK to break the law, we're changing the law. Just like we can allow people who broke the law to make amends, fix the problem, and get on with their lives.

The two proposals at the opposite ends of the spectrum address this question as to whether/how to change the law.

The Guest Worker program treats illegal immigrants, who obey all the other laws and have a job, as having committed a crime equivalent to driving without insurance. They pay a fine, have the conviction appear on their record, and then take the necessary steps to comply with the law.

The other option makes illegal entry a felony, akin to serious violent crimes. As a consequence, hundreds of thousands of people suddenly lose the right to EVER vote or hold certain jobs, even if they later comply with immigration laws and become citizens. Depending upon the way the law might be phrased, it might also permanently remove their ability to become citizens, even if they try to comply with immigration procedures.

How would you feel if a law got passed that made speeding a felony, including permanent loss of all driving and also because it was a felony, loss of your voting privileges? Is speeding really that severe a crime? Is border crossing?

So, the question isn't "was it illegal". Obviously, yes it was illegal. The question is, "what is the appropriate punishment"? Do we want to allow immigrants who entered illegally to make amends and become law-abiding (like driving without insurance -- and the conviction would still be on their record), so that eventually they can apply for citizenship.

Or do we want to say "nope, you screwed up once and even though nobody was hurt, your future rights and options are gone forever". Do we want to be that kind of society? That's the real question.

As legal residents and citizens, we are taught to follow the rules. By whom? By our government. They regulate every little thing we do. Where and when we can cross the street...or we get a ticket. How fast we drive. Even my friggin dog needs a license for Pete's sake! But these illegals can't be bothered by our rules. WTF!

Immigration reform. These people may be illegal but they are not animals. Get real...I wish people would..because the reality is, the only thing we can do is reform immigration. If immigration wasnt so costly and time consuming more people would come here legally, however as is, we are just going to see more and more illegals here. Dont think I agree with you, because I support 100% the reformation, but you do have some valid points. to pout them all in jail is ridiculous. Some people complain "they cost us" (inaccurate btw0 but putting them in jail will what? Cause a massive overhaul of the jail/prison system. New prisons will be placed in YOUR neighborhood, and then you the tax payer are forced to pay higher taxes to feed them all. My grandparents, aunt and father had to pay money and jump through a s.h.i.t load of hoop to live here legally. They all pay their taxes. Illegal is illegal. Don't care if they are coming from a horrible country or not. Life is not fair. Deal with it.

This is not a black and white issue. This country was founded on illegal immigration, without it, America would not be what it is today. There are many more issues that are brought up with this illegal immigration. The American way of life is a VERY easy one, and a dream of many. If you were in another country, suppressed and denied much, and you had the opportunity to come here, what would you do? Would you continue living in a place where you fear for your life? Or would you risk fleeing to America...where you have a chance?
Of course, that is not the case of all, but I think for you to be so...set in stone about the issue is not the way to go. If they were all deported...think of what that would do to the economy. They are renting, they are buying products, and providing labour where not everyone is willing to work. If they were all to just leave...that would not be a pretty site for America. Prices of many things will go up, there will be a lot of empty houses just going to waste.
Think of what you are saying before you say it please.
I think you should take your own advice and "get real" because there is much more to this issue than "illegal=illegal".

The numerous welfare services that OUR tax dollars pay.
Services that citizens would be hard pressed to get.

Ignoring our immigration laws is criminal on the part of our goverment and the business's who hire these folks.

Also forgotten is the fact--that it isnt just mexicans crossing over--terrorists take advantage of our weak border enforcement.

i feel that if i have to verify that i am a citizen, then everyone else should. i was born in the usa, but i feel that our government treats immigrants better than us. it is not fair.

The greatest problem is that we let too many illegals into the country in the past. Now their children are US citizens who are biased and are trying to make it easier for others like their parents to get in ignorantly without realizing how this policy would effect the country.

If I were poor and starving and I could see the land of Milk and Honey, I would be the first one in the water to come across. Also you seem to forget, most of the southwest belonged to Mexico before we took it away from them. maybe we just borrowed it. Illegals didn't seem to be a problem as long as they were in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Only when they started moving everywhere (up north) did they become such a problem. You need to get a life. Mexicans are a hardworking people. They take jobs that our young people turn up their noses at.

We're all immigrants, but we're not all ILLEGAL. If people want to come to the good ole USA fine, but learn to speak English, pay taxes, hold down jobs and don't cry when, after years you are still considered illegal because you didn't go through the proper procedures and channels. Our people in Washington DC are coping out as far as I'm concerned. If illegals make money in the US it should stay in the US and not be sent, by the millions, back to Mexico to support their families. If illegals get free services, ie., welfare, medical cards, driving privilege cards, etc. they should have to pay for these services just like the rest of us have/had to through our taxes. NO FREE LUNCH for ILLEGALS, and your babies born in the US should NOT automatically be US citizens just because they were born here...illegal is illegal.
