I been living in the country continuously for last 10 years.
Self-employed, legally "clean"in any sense, never claim a penny from state and I do pay lot in taxes.
I need no WRS (Work Registration Scheme) approval to be self-employed and I don't need to have indefinite leave to remain to live in the UK. Yet, Home Office information does not provide a simple answer- can I apply for British Nationality straight away or shall I obtain Permanent Residency beforehand. Any confident comment is welcome. Thank you.
Country of my origin joined EU in 2004.

To the cheeky sod who posted first comment- nothing wrong with the country of my origin. I keeping the passport. But I have the right for dual nationality and it is common worldwide. Get used to it or grow up.

You can claim permanent residence (not ILR as you are an EU citizen) if you have been living in the UK for five years from the date when your country joined the EU. You must hold PR for one year before you can apply for naturalisation.
To be eligible to apply for PR you must be able to prove that you have been legally resident and working, studying or been self sufficient for the last five years in the UK.

Until recently citizens of EU member states (except for Ireland) had to apply for ILR first but the law was recently changed so they are automatically granted permanent residence after 5 years, this came into effect on 30 April 2006 so you don't need to apply for ILR first. You will need to have held permanent residence for one year before you apply to be naturalised.

Since the law became effective on 30 April 2006 what I would do is ring the Home Office & confirm it's 5 years from this date that you gain permanent residence |
