Can I get dual citizenship if I was born in the UK, but to American citizens?
Find answers to your legal question.

Can I get dual citizenship if I was born in the UK, but to American citizens?

I was born in 1992 in England. My family lived in the UK for about three years because my Dad was stationed there (U.S. Air Force). I was six months old when we moved. I was just wondering if it would be possible for me to get dual citizenship. I have health care there if that helps my situation or means anything at all.
Additional Details
@ Phil, that's what I thought, but I heard so many different things and the whole health care thing threw me off.

@G T, I was born on a Royal Air Force base, actually, and I have to disagree with your comment about US citizenship. The US is limited in so many ways. I would much rather be a citizen of the UK and be able to see more of the world.

No. Because your family was there as part of a Status of Forces Agreement, your parents were not "settled" in the UK. Since the 1980's Britain has required that citizenship by birth be to either UK citizen parents or UK "settled" parents, i.e, people who are entitled to permanent residence and there long enough to qualify as permanent, normally 5 years.

"Under the law in effect from 1 January 1983, a child born in the UK to a parent who is a British citizen or 'settled' in the UK is automatically a British citizen by birth."

However, I am curious as to why you would be entitled to health care there. It used to be that tourists, etc. could get free treatment while visiting, but you do have to be normally a resident of the UK to qualify nowadays. So maybe there is another status you have acquired without your understanding...

Under British law you would NOT qualify for British citizenship. The UK like most civilized countries no longer allows birth right citizenship. It doesn't matter where in the UK you are born. US bases in foreign countries are NOT US soil anyways so that wouldn't matter!

NO, you can not.
