The sad fact is you can, you can get free health treatment for you and yours from our underfunded overstretched health service, you will get free housing, fully furnished with all you need and more all new stuff even TV's and free TV licence (we have to wait and see if we reach 75 before they waive this) we will also pay to get your windows cleaned, need a car just say you feel scared to walk the streets you think people are talking about you, as you or any of your family cant and dont want to speak english, hey presto a nice big cheque for a car even if you dont have a licence, council tax, electricity, gas and water bills the council will not put you on expensive meters like the rest of the poor brits putting them further and further in the poverty trap!
If you are a muslim HSBC bank will offer you special interest free motgages to buy council and housing assosiation homes (of which there is a great shortage),
and use your right to buy discounts as deposits, so you can buy our homes with out putting a penny down!
Get free fertility treatment on demand at Â£2700 a time getting seen 3 times quicker than us, and if your claim for asylum gets rejected part wat through treatment they must be able to stay untill treatment is complete, hey presto you got a kid with english nationality, some are doing just as an excuse to stay here!!

Strangely the answer to your question is a resounding yes! However one the funadamental rules of assylum which is always overloooked is that the first country the seeker lands in within Europe, should take you in. This has been flaunted and finally as a plus we got the French to close Sangatte which was sort of a half-way point for those hell-bent in getting into the UK for the reasons you quoted. Now you tell me is there any OTHER reason why they are risking everything to get through Europe to get to England. Soft touch? I think so

I understand that there are many fleeing persucution & torture etc and yes they will require basic living assistance, which is understandable but 'free houses' etc at the taxpayers expense whereby we ACTUALLY have to work & pay for things, will upset us the taxpayer. So where do you draw the line? Make England less 'freeby-city'-attractive to encourage people to settle in the first European country they reach, as they rule book says? (and deter the bogus types) I think so. But then you and I know that people like George Galloway and the other liberal do-gooders will object, object and object again. So its always 'catch-22'

By judging some of the answers on here it seems we all wise to it, fed of it, but powerless to make a change!! We actually may giggle at some of these answers e.g 'feel free everyone else does', 'it says so in the Koran' but why are we humouring it? Powerless to make a change!!!

So get ready for more taxes, more frustration and so on... you never know we might see some civil unrest when things do get beyond belief and then the government and liberals may work together to make things more fairer for all.

Of course, if you want to be scapegoated and persecuted by elements of the British public and media. Their constant attacks on asylum seekers make me ashamed to be British sometimes.

Many of these people are fleeing from persecution, the last thing they need is the xenophobic British people blaming them for all our problems when there's enough blame for everyone.

I know there are some problems with regards to immigration, but widescale generalisation doesnt help anything.

If you were claiming asylum you would be provided with shared accommodation while your claim was being processed. You would be directed to go wherever the Immigration and Nationality Directorate decided there was room. You would then get food vouchers to redeem at certain places. You would not get 'lots of money'. If your claim was rejected you may be taken to a removal centre and deported back where you came from, or alternatively if it was dangerous to return to your homeland you would be allowed to stay in Britain until your homeland was safe, but would be thrown out of your accommodation, receive no money, no support, and not be allowed to work. If you stand at the back of Tesco's you might be able to find a cardboard box though.

bapboy, no offence but if all that you said was true, how come I have tried to get jobs and then found that an immigrant has got the same job. How come, my partner and I applied for a council house but would have had to wait for 2 years(we have 2 children and there was not room for allof us where we were) even though houses were built and fully furnished specifically for illegal immigrants?

Immigrant or not, if you have nowhere to live, the government will help, if you are a single parent family, if you only work part-time, if you are disabled or incapacitated, if you suffer from a mental illness, if you have children, if you are seeking work, if you're not meeting your financial needs, if you are bankrupt, ALL will be helped.
Obviously If you have NOWHERE to live then you are more likely to get housing in front of somebody who does have the means, but that's just common sense isn't it?

I'm fed up of people ranting about foreigners stealing jobs and living it up on the taxpayer's expense. It's immigrants that drive me to or from work, clean my house, help me with my children, sell me my groceries at midnight, cook my meals, bring them to my door, and tirelessly work 12 to 15 hour days. Our society today is built on their backs and all we do is complain.
