I have just read in a foreign news paper about this man with dual citizenship, travelling to the country of his original citizenship but with his now british passport. The Police confiscated the British passport and retained the man in the country for 50 days, on the grounds that they think the British passport is fake and they need to investigate. Now I know that with dual citizenship, the country of origin still sees you as their own, regardless on which passport you travel, but surely they can't confiscate British passport.

yes if a country thinks you are illegal or suspect of a crime for example they can fully take your passport off of you whatever country passport you have |

How are you going to stop them?
Secondly - many countries, like the US, and Mexico, require you to leave and enter the country with that country's passport. If you are a US citizen, you must enter and leave with a US passport. If he used a british passport to enter, it might have tipped off the authorities, or some such. |
