There is no such thing as "an asian part of Bradford" Bradford is Bradford but mainly populated by asians and Bradford is in Britain not Pakistan

Would the Pakistani community accept you? I don't think so. You can adopt their culture and religion, but you would still be a white British male

I think the matter at heart here is culture!

If I went over to a British part of Spain and my wife gave birth to a child... Would that child be Spanish? British? Or Anglo-Spanish? Its a very tricky one indeed, here's my take on the issue.

The child would intially be considered British (because of his parents), but he would only become (fully) Spanish, if he a) went to a spanish school b) spoke the language and c) adopted mainstream spanish culture. He would also be very handy to us, because whilst we would have language problems he wouldn't! Making him by-lingual!

So I think it's similar in Bradford, if a pakistani family comes over to Britain and relocates to Bradford, then they are pakistani regardless of anything! But their children are an altogether different issue... If they intergrate and become part of the wider British society (i.e. speak English, go to a English School/University, adopt parts of the British culture and work with 'traditional' British/English people) then they have a case for saying that they are British first with pakistani inheritance.

BUT if those kids end up going to a faith school, learn the gujarat and/or immerse themselves in the culture of their parents homeland... then they might as well be in Pakistan! In this sense it would be the kids that lose out and would find the process of intergration very hard indeed!

I this once again raises the whole issue (raised by Trevor Phillips) that Multiculturalism simply isn't working in some parts of the country and that we are sleepwalking into a American style ghettoised society!

Really , common sense would say you could only call yourself that if your parents were from pakistan .

How about a white brit adopted by parents who immigrated from pakistan or a child born to immigrant pakistanis who was adopted by a white couple.
