Can an American with Indefinate Leave to remain in the UK move in Spain without losing her UK status?

If she stays out of the UK for longer than 2 years then she could lose it.

Yes, it could. You could lose it if you're out of the country for more then 2 years and it would at the discretion of the authorities whether or not they choose to restore it.

Indefinite Leave to Remain allows you to live & work in the UK but does not give you the same rights as a British citizen. As you are still an American citizen if you move to Spain you have to start all over again with the visa cr*p.

What you could do, which would also make it easier for you to move to Spain is now that you have Indefinite Leave to Remain is to apply for British citizenship by naturalisation.

Yes, but why not finish your application and get full residency/passport.....I know it's another £650 but worth it dont you think. (Canadian in exactly the same position)

Come back to England every 12 weeks after going to spain, the rules apply after 13 weeks.

You can move and work in Spain with UK permanent resident status as Spain is part of the EU.
