Can i get married with my J-1 expired but my F-1 still in process?

I was on J-1 visa and decided to go to college here in USA and applied for my F-1 visa while my J-1 visa is still valid. But now my J-1 has expired and I am still waiting to get my F-1 approved. Before that, I would like to get married with my US citizen boyfriend. Is it possible I can get married here without me leaving US?

There are no US nonimmigrant visas that would prevent you from getting married. Certainly, you could get married. The only question is whether you are subject to the 212e 2 year residency requirementt or not. If you are not subject to the requirement, which would be marked on your visa and the DS-2019, then you could be processed for a green card based on your marriage without leaving the US as well. If you are subject to the residency requirement, then you would need to get a waiver through the Department of State, or you would have to live in your home country for 2 years before you could get an immigrant visa and return for a green card.

Yes you'd be able to get married here and adjust status. If your J-1 had the 2 year residency requirement, then you need to obtain a waiver. Those are relatively easy to obtain in my expereince. Of course, chances are you may not even need one.

Usually you can get married in any country you choose, but if your visa restricts marriage then you can't...you need to check your visa conditions. If there's nothing saying "you must inform us if your relationship status changes" or "you must not change your relationship status" or similar then I'd say it's all good :)
