My response solves both my gas and illegal immigrant problems........................I have hired illegal immigrants to push my car. They're plentiful and cheaper than buying gas. Then I pay them in Pesos so they have to go home to spend it. Don't you love it when a plan comes together?

Because those people that you let in without any accountability are the ones who will use the health care without paying. Which will raise our taxes because someone has to pay for it. They have no paper work so if they commit a crime the police will have an extremely hard time finding them. Which may sound funny to some people but when your house get broken into, or your car gets stolen, it will be your rights violated and your insurance rates will go up. Illegal immigrants dont pay taxes, again because they dont have paperwork, but they can collect welfare. Some accept lower paying jobs so that other people are now out of work. Then they have 3 or 4 families living in the same house so that they can make ends meet which causes health/hygiene concerns. Crime is one of the most important reasons not to open the borders. According to the FBI stats over 50% of the murder warrants in LA are for illegal immigrants. I could go on and on.... just watch the news there are many more reasons why the borders shouldnt be opened. This country has worked too hard to let that happen.

OK, if we did that the WHOLE WORLD would be flocking over here for a better life and we wouldn't be able to handle the increased population! We can barely handle it now!

That would actually create a lot more problems. If all people had everyone else's best interest in mind, that might work out. Unfortunately, that's not the case. First off, we have to have some sense of homeland security, and if we just let everyone in, that would be gone. If we got rid of any laws that classify some people as having a right to be here and others not, then telling any one person (a terrorist, spy, etc.) that they are not allowed in would be unlawful and unfair.
If we opened our borders to anyone, the population count would be extremely volatile and would most likely skyrocket, at least at first. This would throw off anything that requires stability to run smoothly, such as the stock market, employment, real estate, the judicial system, and even day-to-day life.
Also, background checks would be impossible. If anyone can come in or leave whenever they want, you wouldn't be able to deny someone entrance because they don't have the appropriate documentation. We would have all sorts of criminals fleeing from the law in their countries and coming here. And we wouldn't even know it.

Oh sure.. no problems.. except the fact that tax payers would have to financially carry, feed, house, educate and provide health care coverage for even MORE ilegal aliens... sure.. no problem... bring em on.....

No we cannot open the border and let anybody come in. Number one reason for that is terrorism. I'm sure Osama and his buddies would just love if they could come into this country and cause havoc. Number two reason is our liberal welfare state. Like it or not, here in America we give handouts in the form of health care, welfare, etc. Billions of people in this world would love to get these handouts and there are not enough taxpayers in America to provide for all of them.

Terrorism and liberalism. Fix these two problems and maybe we can talk about open borders.

Sure , we can . Why have any borders at all ? But just you try to go live in Mexico without papers and see what happens .
Mexico controls their borders to the South strictly to keep out illegals from South America , but they want their people to come to the USA so they will send money home and add to their economy .
They just don't want Americans moving into their country . If we remove the border then Mexico and US will become one nation . We can then change the whole country and help develop all the new resources . Do you want to be a citizen of Mexicana ???

When our children our living in shelters and our daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, grandparents and siblings are being gunned down by their gang bangers.

It is possible only if world population can be controlled, but governments of some countries just dont care about it at all, so long as the population menace is not controlled this is not practicable

It could have been ok a few years, when immigrations levels were much lower and diversified, but now, it is all out of control. Immigrants forms clusters of population, and their integration is not succesful. So in order to increase the integration of immigration, it is important to avoid them to form clusters of population, so to avoid lack of integration.
Of course, it could be possible to do otherwise if, and only if, the immigration levels were getting lower, but it is not the case, we can`t expect a slowdown, thus if we let clusters established, they will grow, until a social clivage forced the collapse of the very fabric of US society...

Traveling is truly an amazing experience, and recommand to all... Go live abroad for a few months if you can, and don`t worry about living well, it is always easier for travelers to see new world opportunities than the native peoples...

i thought America was ''land of oportunity'', where people could come and re-build lives, start all over again.

and anyway, if you aren't indian, you come from a line of immigrants, so it's stupid to say that we shouldn't allow immigrants. and anyway, it's not like everyone is dying to go to America to rob banks and kill your relatives by taking advantage of the social security (which isn't that good anyway).

to straight out answer your question:
yes. i wish we could do that, i wish people were free to live wherever they want, i wish we could share and share alike, and i wish that our movement around the world globe were not inhibited by paranoid goverments that don't believe people from other countries have a sense of right and wrong. i believe we should remove all political barriers.

That's an Utopia... The truth is that Countries are suppose to control immigration to maintain stability. A nation with too many people and not enough power or resources to take care of them gets poorer and disappears really fast.

We are at war with an enemy who can penetrate our borders with ease disguised as an immigrant. A one time amnesty would give us a national register. Anyone not registering should be considered an enemy of the state. All employers who hire illegals are aiding and abetting a crime.

Just like people here in the USA, if you don't like living in N.Y., you may jump in your car, and drive off to other state!

Imaging that, use Google Map, put in as you'd leave N.Y. and drive to England, it will give you the direction! Try for yourself!

I share your sentiments but we live in a world full of paranoia and fear - did the Americans beg for a visa before colonising the present continent? Did the English and the French beg permission of Asian and African nations? But now that we've grown sufficiently rich out of their expense, we intend to keep it that way and never reach back. That's the way capitalism works. I feel myself in the shoes of an African mother with her poor kids in the heart of a civil-war area (see the movie "Blood Diamond" to understand how Western interests create the conflict zone present in modern-day Africa). The least we can wash off our White guilt, is the occasional cheque you wrote to war-torn Darfur region - or a few celebrity adoptions such as Madonna, Angelina Jolie etc. Greed is a powerful weapon and consumes everything in its presence.
