Lets say you help a friend fill out out immigration papers and as a result they get denied? Can they sue you over it? They didn't pay you. Basically, you were just trying to help them.

I did not purposely fill them out incorrectly. Was just trying to help.

Nope, you helped them, they accepted the help. You were wrong. Life goes on.
Now if you lets' say sign a contract and said you were experience and guarantee they will get accepted. then you will be in trouble. Frankly if this paper was that important then a professional should have been called in to help out.
So your friend can't get mad at you for trying to help him/her out. It's his/her own fault for not double checking. |

If they paid you as a professional and you represented that you were qualified to do this and they you screwed up the I would think they might have a case. However, if you are just a friend helping another friend out I don't think they have a leg to stand on! Ultimately they signed the paperwork attesting to the validity of their answers, if something was incorrect then that is their fault. You are not legally responsible. |
