Canadian immigration with a special needs child?

HI! We applied for Canadian immigration in highly skilled migrant programme 2 years ago. My child is diagnosed with mild autism and mild cerebral palsy 6 months after that. We have to do medical tests now. I read that they do not accept families with special needs child. Is there anything that we can do to still migrate to Canada? This is very important for his future. He needs to get good health care. If that is not possible, then please suggest which other country with free and good health care can we migrate to? We can only speak English (no French, Norwegian etc)

Some of the answers were provocative esp.sidwell. We are providing him health care at the moment. We have more than 400,000 Dollars but we don't want to waste them. We just want a secure future for him that in case something goes wrong, we should have a back up. You would have been more gentle only if you had a disabled child and you were in my position.

Do the medical. They may not deny your child. It depends on if they consider him to be likely to become an excessive demand on the health care system or not. If as you say, he is only mildly inflicted, it may not be a problem. What are his future prospects? If you can get letters from a couple of doctors saying that his future prospects are good, that would help.

YOU need to be able to provide him with all the health care he requires, NOT canada nor any other country.

Your child WILL be denied because they WILL be a DRAIN on the health system.

The whole point of immigrating is that YOU DO NOT be a drain on the health care system of the new country.

What is highly skilled migrant program? That is an British term from UK. Canada does not have that. If you applied as a skilled worker to Canada - you will still be denied.

WHY is the NHS not providing services for your autistic child?

To those who say that this policy is discriminatory - please ask yourself if your country will ACCEPT a severely austistic child and be willing to pay welfare for that child from the day they arrive? NO OF COURSE NOT.

That being said - there is ONE category in which Canada WILL accept handicapped children - and that is the Business class. The reason for this is because when 2 familes applied to immigrate in the business class and both had handicapped children, they took CIC to court and won their case saying that they had enough money to look after the child and they promised that they will never ask the canadian health system for help with their child. Business class immigrants must have $400,000 to start a business in Canada.

You obviously do not have that kind of money or you would not be saying that you child NEEDS to have good health care.

I can only interpret that comment in one way. Seems to me that you dont love your child, because you cannot be bothered wasting money on his needs. Money is obviously far more important to you than your child.

Yes, this is harsh but that is how you are coming across to the readers.

Since you do have over $400,000, then why dont you cancel the first application and reapply under the business class. That way your son will be permitted to immigrate. You just have to pay for his needs (as ANY parent should be willing to do) because he will not be eligible for a health card.

As a parent,it is your responsibility to provide health care for your child,not the taxpayers of any country.
Not sure how Canada works,but if the child is going to cost the health care system alot of money,they have every right to refuse immigration. Most countries are the same. Someone immigrating is supposed to show they are able to support their family,that includes health care.

You have almost half a million dollars and you want others to pay for your childs medical care? I hope you made a typo in the amount of money you have.
Money spent on your childs health isn't wasted.

You should contact the Canadian embassy. Not accepting applicants solely based upon a special needs child is discriminatory and I don't think that is actually the case.

Good Day! im a mother of 5 and one of my child has a mild developmental delay, he is 5 years old now, we are applying for immigrant in Canada under the of skilled workers, but we are processing only for my husband (as principal applicant) and myself to go first to canada, as applicants for Family Class Category it is required that all family members will take a medical exam wether they are non-accompanying. Is there a chance that our application will be granted? Thanks and God Bless....
