Canadian in the US (TIN)?

Does anyone know if a Canadian can register a TIN (Tax Identification Number) and open up a business in the US?

You can indeed get a TIN. I got an actual SSN in 1981 because I wanted to open up an export/import business in Canada and needed the number to open up a US bank account. However, the business (and you) must be based in Canada.

As for starting the business, you need to apply for an E1 visa.Otherwise you will not be allowed to stay here for long.
