I am going to the US on Visa Waiver Program. I have a one way ticket. If I have a second ticket (different airline) will they check if this airfare really exist on the database of the airline?

You must make sure that u have proof of travel to return back, so whatever airline or airport it is, as far as its within 90 days, its fine.
If the immigration officer is in doubt, they have a full right to interview or even detain you until they make all the inquiries. |

one way tickets will get you denied entry unless you are immigrating.
you cannot have a one way ticket just for visiting. |

I dont think that is the airline's responsibility. They check your ID and your ticket to get on the plane, now when you get to the US and go through immigration, that might be a different story |

if you have traveled before? you would have noticed,that when you leave and when passing trough customs, you hand it your passport and your travel ticket?.but before doing this? you have your luggage checked in and airlines checkout counter are not stupid.
so? a trained Officer will know,if your return ticket is bogus or not..
just wait until you get to the US...# customs #... |
