You might look at how they started immigrating here.
They were brought over mainly to help with the hard labor needed for our railroad construction projects. They were treated poorly but worked hard and made a better life for themselves. Most knew the conditions were horrible but they were leaving a country of just a little more then our population is now. Imagine that China had about 400 million in about 1880 or so. China should be a study of the hardships or large populations and the standard of living the people must endure.
From there you can morph to our current immigration allowance that has nothing to do with what is truly needed (this is NOT an issue that Chinese are alone in) and rather based on some other agendas. They are:
Political - the dems want more dem voters and poor immigrants tend to vote dem.
Big Business - they want to keep wages down so by artificially increasing labor supply most citizens wages stay lower then if our immigration levels were lower.
History - Many people are hanging onto our old notions about immigration and think it must continue. But it HAS to end sometime or we will find ourselves out of natural resources, cramped beyond imagination and living without any of the comforts we take for granted.
Humanitarian - Some people think that by letting 1.3 million people a year in we are helping somehow. With 7 billion people that amount of immigration does nothing to help the world condition, nor would even 20 million a year. |
