I agree, lets END the special treatment of Cuban immigrants. No illegal should ever get amnesty!! |

Cubans are refugees from a dictatorship. Mexico may have its flaws, but it is nothing like Cuba. |

The biggest difference is that Cubans are fleeing from a Dictatorship whereas Mexicans are fleeing a (corrupt) Democratic government. The immigration policy that you referred to makes it legal for Cubans to seek asylum once they are here. There is no such policy in place for Mexican immigrants, making any undocumented immigrants (from most countries) illegal. You can't ask for protection from the law if you are breaking the law, although even illegal immigrants have civil rights.
I get what you're saying, but I see how extending that invitation to ALL immigrants would put a huge strain on our economy as well as our national security. |

There's a difference.
Cubans are NOT allowed to emigrate freely from Cuba. Mexicans are allowed, nay, they are encouraged, to go to America.
Big difference. |

Cuba--oppressed communist nation under a dictatorship.
Mexico--democratic nation which the citizens vote into office.
Cubans seek asylum. Mexicans and many other illegal aliens seek the almighty dollar only.
I have far more sympathy for the plight of Haitians, citizens of Darfur or Myanmar than those from our southern neighbor. |

Fleeing from a communist dictatorship is different than fleeing from a country that is going through rough times. Hispanics have at least some opportunity to make their country better, if they stay and fight for what they believe in. In this country those who came before us had to fight for the freedoms and opportunities we have. |

As somebody said, Mexicans can move freely in and out of their country and theirs is a democracy. No political oppression
We have a comunist dictatorship in our country
If the Mexicans want to receive fidel and the little brudder as rulers and send Felipe Calderon to us as our president, be my guest |

How many cubans are there in cuba?
How many mexicans in mexico?
Sorry gotta block you. |

The government in Cuba IS NOT ONLY CORRUPT. IT IS ALSO COMUNIST !
Does Mexico have a comunist government as well ?
Learn the facts before opening your mouth
And, yes. fidel is to blame in the first place for us not to be allowed to come here in many cases.
Of this, I am sure |

In 2007 about 3,500 Cubans made it to the USA and were able to stay under the terms of the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1965.
3,500, that's it.
Get over it. |

Cubans contribute more to this country than Mexicans, but if the choice is no special treatment of Cubans or the same treatment to all illegals, then I vote for no special treatment.
Or how about this: Let's treat Mexican illegals the same way Mexicans treat illegals in their own country, minus the rapes and murders. |

It's not just the Cuban vs Mexican immigration policy that should be looked at. |

cubans are not allowed any avenue for immigration, mexicans can apply at the local embassy. I'm not sure if fidel is to blame for cubans not being allowed to come here. IDK the specifics, but i think the US does not allow any legal immigration from cuba. So when the baseball player declares asylum in america it is not because he was not free to leave cuba but because he does not meet criteria to be let into america and get a green card.
just as many americans flee thier own corrupt govt, poor conditions and horrible economy. any country i go to will enforce thier immigration policies if they catch me breaking thier laws. |

You have a good point and yes we should abolish the wet foot dry foot claus before we lose Florida entirely. Have you ever been to miami? It truly is a foreign country. |

It is just one of the many quirks of government.
I agree that legal immigration is the only way people should be allowed to stay here.
Instead of writing on the internet, write to your local Congressman/Senator, and see what they say.

they hit ur new $75,000benz and u cant sue them cause they dont exist in this country. how bout that? |

Yeah it's wack. Remember when we returned all the Haitians to Haiti? We had them at a temporary prison at Guantanamo. I do believe immigration law needs major reform, but I do believe we need limits. I also think we need a guest worker program, and an end to automatic citizenship to children born in this country to illegals. We also need to continue to increase aid and assistance to Mexico, and end the embargo on Cuba. That's my two pesos worth. |

Life isn't fair. Have you not learned that, yet? There are different policies because of the embargo on Cuba. DUH!!! |

I agree it is not fair. Immigration laws need to be reformed soon. I believe Mexicans contribute more to the US then cubans. Mexicans come here to work, they take the jobs we do not want. Sure americans complain about them bringing down wages, yet ask them to take the jobs and they will decline.
I dont think they should grant the same treatment but they should find a half way point. |

It's all McCarthyism. The US hates the Cuban government way more than the Mexican government so it's like they're showing them up. |
|

GreasyTony

Very good point! They should either allow the Mexicans to stay if their foot is in, or change the Cuban policy. There's more Mexican illegals in the US, therefore they contribute more! |

The difference is that unlike Mexican immigrants, Cubans, the first wave at least, came with money, which resulted in immediate acceptance by the US goverment. This financial power allowed them to put their own people in local goverment, that's why you' wont hear any talks on removing asylum status on Cuban immigrants. They also own the state of Florida, all they have to do is to threaten the current incumbent with giving their votes to someone else..and Florida is one of the states with a majority of electoral votes |
