According to the Australian, on March 17th when prime minister Cowen was visiting the white house on st. paddys day he said that Ireland was easing upon paspport laws. At present, Ireland requires a person to have at least one Irish grandparent to claim ancestral right to citizenship, which carries with it a coveted European Union passport.
But Ireland's Government has decided to loosen the rules and extend at least some naturalisation rights to people who are one generation further away from their Irish roots.
This would mean that I could apply for irish citizenship as my great gradnfather is from Ireland. I have tried researching this but only came up with this one news article (see below) Can anybody confirm this??

Eish, so if I where to go study in Ireland then Id only qualify.From what I understand, at the moment its just for those who have studied in Irleand but the move could be extended further at a later stage. Thanks for your help!
