I will only speak for myself and my family. The "Day without immigrants" taught me what a dangerous situation we (the US) is in.
The number of illegals is so large and they have become so embolden, that they are willing to make themselves visible and demand their "rights." We have to weed them out and ship them back home.
Because of the illegals many of the civil service jobs are now given to those who are "bi-lingual," but of course they don't really mean bi-lingual because I am bi-lingual. I just can't speak Spanish.
I realize now what a terrible mistake it was to cater to those speaking Spanish. It should be English only, and the burden of assimilation lies with the immigrant...legal or otherwise, not with the government.
So, did May 1st backfire? It did in my house! I'm upset and shaken up. I will vote for someone who will remedy this problem quickly!

Yes it absolutely did.Everyone I know personally and online waited to get gas,buy vehicles,grocery shop,clothes shop,get haircuts,and go out to eat until Monday.

The effect they were looking for was not achieved except in places like California where the largest # of illegals reside.

It's funny you should ask that! I work evening shift (dinner) at a restaurant...I was off work around 11 pm the day/night before and had to go by Walmart to get a few things we needed. The place was literally PACKED with Hispanics on a buying frenzy! They had full carts, some even had two carts full! It's truly stupid of them to buy the night before, what they weren't going to buy the next day by boycotting American businesses! I mean...get real...do they actually, really think they harmed OUR businesses? Because May 2, they were back to doing exactly what they did before! So we went one day without them in our stores.....did we feel the pressure of one day without their money? I don't think so...and yes, it backfired big time, judging by what they did here!

Nope. Americans know that we are all immigrants, no matter how far back in time we came here. Even the "Native" Americans are immigrants from somewhere.

I think so. This poll was taken after the first demonstrations, and came out very differently than polls taken in December.

Note that in asking about the House Bill they didn't mention the felony provision, though.

oh yes, wasn't that funny. at my husbands store, all the illegals came in the next day and bought the items that they wanted the day before. i dare them all to stop buying the items they need and we'll see who needs who. i can moe my own grass but can they do without food water and shelter if they don't spend their money here. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha we don't need them, they need us

It certainly did backfire to a proportion that just will be seen in the forthcoming days. You cannot blackmail or boycott someone just to get your point across, that is just wrong. Besides the marches were not as big as they were supposed to be, about 1 million of illegal aliens marched on the streets all over USA, that is like less than the 10% considering that there are more than 12 millions of illegal immigrant in USA. I do agree to give them work permit, but from there to grant them full status as American citizen is a big step, specially when they are asking for it basically at gunpoint.

Oh yes there was much to that as days go on we face more of the ilegals not only on the 1st of May. As for now the immigaration officers have aprihanded a big number of ilegals in the northen part of Tanzania.
