Differences between living in the UK and Australia?

Well I see your first couple of answerers havent exactly contributed much.

Im an Australian but have been living in London for the past 9 years ....... so I know what both worlds are like.

The thing to bear in mind about Australia is its not as cheap as the brochures would have you believe. In fact I would say food here is cheaper than in Australia (except meats, Aus have really good cuts of meat at good prices), but housing is a lot cheaper in Australia (or rather, you get much MORE for your money than you do in the UK).

Lifestyle is MUCH better .......... and is cheaper because you can do FREE things like go to the beach, join a sporting club etc etc ........ all low cost things whereas in the UK everywhere you go, you have to pay for it.

Having a young child of my own over here, I would much rather he be brought up in Australia in terms of education and lifestyle, but for factors beyond my control, this is not possible.

I would tell them to go for it, but to keep an open mind. No matter where you go in the world, you still have the same problems. Some areas are crime hotspots, while others are lovely. Some areas have problems with migrants and assoociated issues, other areas dont. You'll find racist people in Australia, and nice people.

If you go in without the rose tinted glasses, you will have a much better experience.

To get the ball rolling google 'Immigration Australia' it should come up with some immi.gov.au address that will give you details.

Generally it can take around 6 months for a visa application to be processed, and you can always NOT use the visa, so my advice apply now even if youre not sure because if you change your mind, you just dont use the visa. Simple as.

I'm from Perth in Australia. I haven't been to London but from what I hear, it may take some time to get used to the heat of summer!! We have days that can get as high as 40 degrees. (Two Christmas's ago we had a 44 degree Christmas day! That was stifling even for us true blues :) )

I'd highly recommend visiting here first... you will find that a lot of people are friendly and accommodating and can help you find your way in regards to immigration.

We have whatever weather you wish to choose !!!
We have blue skies and much less drizzle.
I live in Queensland and its perfect weather most of the year.
The centre of Australia is pretty much desert but a wide strip around the coast is fertile, and has good rainfall (usually) but because of the centre desert Australia is known as the driest continent in the world. We are the smallest "continent" in the world and the largest "island" in the world.
Australians are mostly more relaxed and easy going than the Brits and there is less class consciousness here.
Of course our history is not as old as Uk and Europe, so it is a young country Europeanwise. I recommend that your family take their time in deciding where they wish to live and travel about as much as possible.
I am a proud Australian !
