Do Americans really think that we Mexicans travel in Burro, wear a huge Sombrero and celebrate 5 de mayo?

I lived in Mexico for three years and I have to say I never saw anyone riding a donkey wearing a huge sombrero. I also know that 5 de mayo is not independence day in Mexico. It is the celebration of the battle of Pueblo. Independence day is in September. But then again I actually like to learn about new cultures.

No, not at all. I'm a cop in Texas, and deal with a lot of Hispanic folks. Not all are from Mexico, but a lot are. I frequently don't see the best side of them, as is true of lots of the others I deal with. I worked an overtime gig this past summer at a multi-cultural let's all hold hands and get along type concert. Someone in the crowd (it turned out to be a 17 y/o female trust fund brat) threw a Heineken bottle and hit me in the face with it. It broke my nose and opened up a lac over my eye that took 11 stitches to close. The only ones that came to the cop's aid were three young Hispanic gentlemen. My radio was lost in the shuffle, and they helped me while one of them went to find another officer and someone could get there to get me out of the melee. I see the best and worst in every race represented in my city.
I see the best in people too. I also come across lot's of every race with a racial chip on their shoulder. Where do YOU fit in?

I would recommend that you investigate a bit more about ALL Americans before you make such sweeping generalizations. You think that all Americans think this way, you are very wrong. Only those that are ignorant do.

No. That's just a rationalization some Mexican descendants use to avoid facing the accurate stereotypes.

The most disastrous of those is the gross overpopulation that is pushing Mexicans, and Latinos from other places, across our southern border. If they didn't pump out more babies than their homeland could support, they wouldn't be flooding in here.

Some U.S citizens do. I know different. Those that speak that way are doing the typical stereotyping. Not all of us follow their lead. Nor do we agree with them in their extremist cause.

Americans get their impression of Mexico from the 12 million illegal Representatives we have in our country. It's not a pretty picture. Maybe Mexico should work harder on their reputation.
