Do I need to go talk to a immigration lawyer? Can it increase the chances for them to come to US?

I need your help! My cousin is hard of hearing or hearing-impaired. She lives in the Philippines. Her family was denied a visa to come to US twice. I want to do it for her bright future and good education. Do I need to go see Atty. Michael Gurfinkel or not? What do you think? I need your opinion. Thanks!

I would pay a lawyer for a consultation to find out what your options are. If you're up for the task, do it yourself. If not, hire professional help. A good AILA member immigration attorney can only help your case. People often don't realize how complex the issues are in immigration law. |

Hiring a lawyer will do you no good. You cannot petition for a cousin, that is not a close enough relative for immigration purposes. |

If a person has a handicap or condition that may result in them becoming a public charge then it is very difficult to get a US visa other than as a short term visitor.
A lawyer may be able to file the correct paperwork but they have no clout with the government if the immigration department refuses her. |

This is only my opinion, of course...
If your English is good, and you know and understand the instructions; go to the immigration website, download the forms, be meticulous, and do everything yourself. Lawyers can be useful if you are not capable (if your English is poor, or you are not able to understand the instructions). Other than that, lawyers have a way of taking advantage of people, even delaying things, making you nervous or tricking you into getting more money out of you. |

You don't need to talk to any immigration lawyer to increase your US immigration chances. I am going to give you a web link that will answer all your question you may have about US immigration.
