While the immigration issue does attract racists, it has been my experience that most of these racists are to be found amongst our pro-mass immigration opponentsâ€”in particular, among the ethnic-identity pressure groups and politicians.
To those (sometimes) well-meaning but confused people who insist that immigration is a racial issue, I always ask: "Well, then, since you are absolutely certain one's position on immigration is all about race, what are your racial reasons for supporting this current flood?"
This question seems to cause confusion.
I believe that the confusion arises from our nation's unfortunate muddle-headedness on issues of race and culture. The current dogma of the "multicultural" ideology has convinced many Americans that "culture" and "race" are the same things. Just think of the endless paeans to multiculturalism in advertising, political speech, academia, etc.: they are always illustrated by a photo of people of different races.

This is dangerous and wrong.

While a black American and a white American might be different colors, they are equally American, i.e., they share the same culture.

Modern "multiculturalists" are the true racists when they elevate skin color to a place as primary as culture.

Did you watch that show 30 days? Where that guy had to spend 30 days with those illegal immigrants, You could tell that the immigrants wanted to call him racist so badly but couldn't because the guy was Mexican American

I'm not racist, I'm married to a Mexican. He came to this country legally and served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. I don't want anyone here, who is not here legally. My husband waited in line, so should everyone else.

Or is this part of a bigger plan, as suggested by La Raza...the invasion and retaking of America.

My conclusion is simply this...those 20 million illegals are ALL potential TERRORIST and need to be removed.

My whole issue with ILLEGAL aliens is that they are well...ILLEGAL!

There is a law and a system for getting into the states for a reason...do you think its fair for the citizens of the US to have to pay more for taxes and health care because when the Aliens go to the hospital, they don't pay their bills and that reflects onto your healthcare? Its not fair at all for those who have waited years and years to finally be able to move here with there families and loved ones, only to be accused of being some lowly illegal...when most have worked really hard ot be legal and go through the system, and work hard when they get here. Im not saying that hte illegals are lazy...but neither are americans. I don't know where you are getting your information..but its not right at all. Many employers don't hire americans, because we won't work for peanuts...the Illegals will work for any amount of money...Thus taking jobs and causing a HUGE problem..especially where I live.

I agree with you regarding pro-illegals thinking that Americans who oppose illigal immigration are fat, lazy & complacent.

The illegal feels no solidarity with anyone that doesn't support and allow his continued disregard for the laws of the country he is trying to stay in illegally. I can only concur that this lack of respect for our laws would continue, should this person receive amnesty, and be allowed to stay.

I don't think that anyone with half a brain is accusing people who oppose illegal immigrants as being racist. What *is* racist is focusing on one certain demographic as problematic, but not caring if illegal canadians, brits, french, or scots are here.

I think it's racist that anti-illegals automatically assume someone is talking about Mexicans when illegal immigration is brought up. As the other side is so fond of telling us, there are plenty of other illegals - so aren't THEY the racists here?

Racism has nothing to do with with being upset over the immigration problem, but it does have everything to do with perpetuating the myth of any race or culture by defining them by their status. Some people step a bit further over the line than they should on this issue, and yes, it does make them racist.

I do not say those things. I do not believe Bush's line about how immigrants are doing the jobs "americans won't do". Americans will do any job if you pay them what the job is worth. The problem with being so "against" illegal immigrants is that what is happening is a humanitarian crisis. the only humane solution is to improve conditions in mexico so they don't need to immigrate, not to make their lives worse, because if we start arresting them, those family members they're sending their paychecks back to will start coming here as well.

Take a look back at our history, our innovations were made by people driven by their desire to succeed. I think what you are describing is a certain section of middle class moronity, you know, the ones who spend their time watching tv and dreaming of winning the lottery to the exclusion of all else that life has to offer. I wouldn't call it fascinating, but it is an interesting question! There is a lot of merit in what you say about "illegal aliens", most people are way too lazy to get out and hustle for a 4 dollar an hour job, when they can make more on welfare or unemployment. I work hard for my money, but no where near as hard as anyof the illegals do...not only do they take jobs no one else wants, they face the added complication of having to stay in the shadows so Immigration doesn't catch them and deport them.
