I recently got my green card but i am having a hard time getting my social security number. I am planning on getting married and i was wondering if i need a ssn in NY to get married.

as a permanent resident you will need a SSN. and you are definitely eligible to get one!!!! i assume that you will want to work here? it's not a big deal. it may just take a little while. i had to go to the SSN office for a few weeks and check on my case.
what you need to get married is different from state to state. i got married in NC before i was a permanent resident so i didn't have a SSN. i would think that thats how it is in most states, though. just go and get a marriage license. if you come across something you can't answer, come back another time. once you get the license you have to get married within the next 90 days.

Honey, I've been thru the process with 2 of my exwives. You need a SS# in this country if you want to do anything. Get it. By the way, I was married in NYS both times, and we needed our SS#. |

No. You do not need a SSN to get married. Since you do not need an SSN, they will not give you one. You will continue to be denied until you actually need one. |
