No, I don't. We have a common language and share some history but that's as far as it goes. Both countries now have their own different characters.
People tend to think we have more in common than we really do because of the shared language. |

Well, thanks for making us feel great about ourselves. Not often the US receives positive feedback from the rest of the world these days. But, I guess you could say England is the father of the US in a metaphorical sense. We started out as a grouping of English colonies, and much of our law as well as many of our customs were based on or heavily influenced by those of England. Though you would also have to consider Australia to be a son of England in that sense... Does that make America and Australia siblings? |

I don't think so. America does have a lot of it's roots from The UK but I don't think we're it's matriarch. It would be like saying the scandanavian countries are our mothers because of the Saxons. |
