I think that anyone that tries to learn anything is an example. People give up on learning too early. We should learn up until we are no more. SO, no, I think it is fabulous!

No, I gain respect for people learning another language. I do, however, laugh at people that think anyone from outside the USA is American. You know what the term means, quit being a moron.

Do people from Namibia get upset that you don't call them South Africans? They are from the Southern portion of Africa, making them SOUTH AFRICANS. That would be idiotic...same as calling someone from Costa Rica "American"

no... I actually gain a little respect for them if they are honestly trying to learn the language... It is however, sometimes comical and I have to laugh... just as others would laugh at me trying to speak their language in their country... I would probably ask how the moldy cheese was whilst trying to ask where the bathroom was...

I laugh when I hear people speaking a language other than English...And I pity the children of those people, knowing that theirs will be a difficult life with out English skills.

yes and no.. im working in retail now while im going to school, and i get non americans in all the time.
this asian came in, and he was looking for a blender (which is odd because i work at a hardware store), and he didnt know the name of it.. so he spent 10 minutes trying to explain to me what it was.. 'that thing spins'... a drill?... a washer? a weedwacker?, so he ended up calling someone and asking them to tell me what he was talking about.. that to me is funny... he knew the basics, but not enough to get what he needed.
however, i do get upset when people come in time after time and have failed to learn anything about the language... and i see it with illiterate americans.. a guy asked me to read him the sale flyer because he couldnt.... ok, i could understand if you didnt bring your glasses, but when the font is at least size 32, anyone can read that...

Not at all. If they are in the USA I am glad they are trying to learn out official language. And I hope no one in Mexico laughs at me when I try to communicate with them when visiting.

I dont laugh at people who try to speak english. But i have aunts that speak english but still have an accent and there are people that will act like they cant understand them when they make perfect sense. As soon as they hear a hint of an accent they act like that are talking a foreign langauge

However, it isn't our fault that your country teaches you that America is one continent while we grew up taught that North America is one continent and South America is a different continent, that together they are the AmericaS, and that America is a country, as the United States of Brazil is simply called 'Brazil'.
