If the Chicano is an American citizen, he/she is American.
If the Chicano is a Mexican citizen, he/she is Mexican.
See how it works? |

I consider Chicano American. From what I understand Chicano is the Mexican American lifestyle.
Also...
A person with the desendence of mexican but not born in mexico but in the U.S.A chicano is not people from latin america but only people with mexican desendence in born in the USA.
Example:
That vato over there says he is chicano but his parents were born in El Salvador. That means he is not chicano because his parents must be form Mexico and he must have been born in the United States to be a chicano |

I consider it part of the "are they Hispanics, Latinos, Chicanos..." debate that I personally find annoying. They're Hispanics, all of them. If they're US Citizens then they're Americans. |

If they are a citizen of the US, I consider them a (Mexican-) American. If they are a citizen of Mexico, i consider them a Mexican. If they are a citizen of another country, I consider them neither. |

it depends on whether or not they are legal.
if not, then they are obviously mexicans who illegally entered america. |

I don't use the term, so I don't care what it means. It is a slang term, and doesn't really need to be used.
I prefer "American", "legal resident", or "illegal". If they are "illegal", they need to go home. |

I consider a Chicano as a person of Latin American descent. They are an American if they are a legal citizen of the United States of America. |

A Chicano is definitely an American....The key to understanding the Chicano experience today is to know that the heritage of people of Mexican ancestry in the United States stretches back thousands of years and includes European, Indian and African influences. A wonderful example of a Chicano is Carlos Santana.....His music is a wonderful reflection of the culture, with influences from all over Latin America and Africa....Interesting info on him, he is so much more famous in Europe, than in America..... |

Usually it depends on what they consider themselves... it bothers me when a Chicano waves a Mexican flag and rants and raves about how proud he is of his country of origin... if Mexico is so great why come here?... I do not ask that they be ashamed of where they come from only that they realize they are lucky to be here (just as I am lucky to have been born here) and that they work at being a productive member of the American society (which happens to be a very inclusive society by the rest of the worlds standards)... |

I suggest that anyone born in North or South America is, by definition, an "American". |
