No, I don't think it was racist. Why? Because there were AMERICANS who needed money directly following Katrina, and they WERE hired...until two weeks later when they were let go because "the Mexicans had arrived". The truth is the truth and Mexicans are taking US jobs because they will work for less and don't pay taxes along with bringing how they live here from Mexico....including not having their trash hauled (don't want to pay the money to have it done) along with not watching their kids and living 20+ to ONE house. When I say this I am speaking from first hand experience and saw them do this first hand.

I dont think he meant it to be a racist comment but that's how it came across as. Though truth is New Orleans is predominately a black city, he was just trying to be funny and make a joke. Though the second comment was way out of line and racist.

Definatly a double standard im from Baton Rouge and Mayor Nagain is a retard and im white. He got away with saying that but it did offend a lot of people and makes New Orleans look bad, because of the comment that he said. Everyone is not racist, and the comment he later says that was not ment to be a racist comment but that's sure what it sounded like.

This is very old news, but yes, there is definately a double standard.

A way to look at is that while he can get away with comments like that, he's not doing himself any favors by publicly advertising his bigotry.
