I'd happily support it everywhere.
But the first shovel has to go in the ground somewhere. And the majority of the illegal immigrants are from the south.
So getting the biggest earliest return for your investment--you go right to where it can do the most good earlier.
TO your question: It isn't racist--it is prudent decision based on the facts and the numbers.

I am not worried about Canadian borders and the guy with TB is an American.
It's a matter of economics. The average Canadian has an income approx. six times that of the average Mexican.
Therefore, the US does not want to keep that kind of money out of the economy. Besides, in general, Canadians are not looking for work in the US( legit jobs or "under the table") |

The TB guy as you call him should serve to remind folks that even those who are on the watch-list can get in, he was supposed to be detained, our border(s) are broken. The reason so many want the Southern border sealed is the steady stream of illegal immigrants flowing into the United States.
I watched a documentary that had camera's set up at one of the favorite crossing spots in Arizona and I must admit that even knowing the statistics for illegal immigration did not prepare me for SEEING the sheer flow across the Southern border on a daily basis.
It is not racist to want to protect our citizens and most people want both border(s) secured but the Southern border is in crisis. Lets face it, we do not have millions of illegal Canadians... |

Building a fence isn't racist... and of course Mexico doesn't want it.... it would make it that much harder for illegals get in here... Canada doesn't need a fence persay, but I wouldn't be mad if one was put up.... We need increased security measures on EVERY side of the country...

It's like first aid,you take care of the most serious things first. So why worry about the guys broken leg while you should be stopping the arterial spray coming from his severed arm. It's the same with the border. Since 9/11 approximately 23,000 Americans have died due to the actions of illegal aliens,98% of whom came through our southern border. That's just their criminal element,then add in the damage that the rest have done by their presense from creating additional unemployment,to driving down wages,unpaid taxes, Identity theft etc and their very presence is a menace. So it only makes sense to stop the bleeding being created by an open southern border,before we worry about the minor scratches being caused by an open northern border.

I don't call it racist to build a fence on the Mexico/US border. But reading some of the comments to this question tell me race is an issue. FOA you haven't got a clue, you sound like a racist! You read of incidents involving illegal mexicans and group all of them together. Now isn't that the definition of a racist. Not all mexicans "break every law in the book." Plenty of other people are "breaking every law in the book." |

Racism is asking questions and inserting the idea of race when race is not even an issue. In order to find racism in the southern border problem, you have to first ignore that they are breaking the law. |

A fence on the southern border is the first step. Why has it taken so much time to build this fence? Business cartel is against it. Where will American cheap labor come from if not Mexico? Many owners of food stores, road construction, farming are yelling to the Federal government that they will go out of business if they cannot hire cheap labor. The new law in Arizona makes them check the person's social secuity card against a computer readout to insure that he/she is legal. They are balking at this. It can be done easily but it means loss of a large percentage of their work force so they are coming up with stories of how this will kill their businesses. The major portion of illegal immigration is fired by American business and this is the main reason why it is so hard to stop. These illegals are here because they are literally invited here by the farmers and other enterpreneurs who hire them. Cheap labor. Higher profit. Then there is always the worry about terrorists crossing the border (either North or South) and this by itself should resolve the problem once and for all. Our president and Congress know all this but are doing nothing to guarantee that our rights are maintained and that our immigration law is followed to the letter. President Bush is the biggest loser in all avenues of his presidency and we must try to make his life so miserable that he will be forced to begin giving the American people what they require according to the law of the land. |

absolutly not!!! We don't need a fence we need the corp who hire these people to stop hiring them . I am a small buisness owner and I do not use illegal aliens . I think its ridiculas that they are able to stand around all day waiting for someone to pick them up and when they dont get pu they hang around drinking beer. Urinating on the side of the road . If it does not effect you in your community than you really should shut up . And please be careful driving not many of them have insurance or a license so if they hit you and leave you are left with your insurance going up . Wake up america and look at the whole picture from every side . My grandparents came here from Itally the right way why should it be any other way. They have more rights than we do |
