or just the ones that are here illegally? Do you see them as eroding British identity?

I don't have a problem with immigrants. The majority don't want to alter our culture at all. It's the PC brigade who keep banging on about offending the immigrants. It's the PC brigade who are causing this bad feeling towards immigrants and it should be stopped so we can all live together peacefully in society. |

Anything illegal is a problem for any civilised country this is how we keep our country a safe place to live in and if this include some immigrants so be it !!! !! |

I don't personally have a problem but the NHS the schools and the other infrastructures can't cope with the sudden influx of so many immigrants. Some schools have 14 or so different languages spoken! This is not the way for our children to get a good education. |

Absolutely not. I just want peace of mind knowing that immigrants respect our laws and are willing to go through the proper legal procedures and background checks. If they didn't respect our laws enough to do that, and they are here illegally, working for "under the table cash", not paying taxes, and demanding equal benefits as our legal citizens...well, that chaffs my ***... |

No I don't have a problem with immigrants, I just think its gone too far, we have too many people coming in and taking things from those who are already here. We have no security in our own country right now, British young people can't be sure of having a home, a job, or anything. Bosses are using the availability of migrant labour to avoid having to invest in training local workers. Jobs are being taken by economic migrants that our own unemployed (not all of them are lazy or workshy, some need work or need help to get it) could be doing. Our futures are being sold out.
We need to close our borders, pull out of the EU and take care of our own for a while. |

I have no problem but there used to be a saying " When in Rome do as the Romans do " so if you want to live in the UK you should adapt our culture.

Make no mistake, this is a big problem in the UK at the moment .... and the world terrorism situation only seems to add fuel to the fire. The matter will be solved when there is a widely accepted balance of view and that may never be in this generation. I have no problem with other races in this country and I meet them everyday in my job. I actually go out of my way to learn about them and establish a rapport. What does alarm me however, if alarm is the right word, is when they establish areas where the white man cannot go while feeling uneasy and where they simply erode the British values that we all love ... i.e. being politically correct in case we offend them. There is also evidence that immigrants tend to commit more crime than others, particularly motoring offences where they have come from countries where the law is somewhat laxer. To the average British man, I don't think it matters if the immigrants are legal or otherwise as in general we wouldn't know that. The big problem in most people's minds is that the immigration is one way ... the British people could in no way have the successful options into other countries that we seem to offer. That is all down to the UK being an inviting and supportive country to settle in. There is no doubt that we do make it easy for that to happen. I think if people saw the government as having strong options to make immigration harder, the British people would feel a little more at ease. We must remember that British pride is still rampant and has been through two world wars and the rest. We need to find common ground .... immigration must be heavily controlled and immigrants must prove their worthwhileness. They must all possess skills and obtaining long term benefits must be controlled. But at the same time, we must, as a planet, do something about the escalating terror situation as ( and regrettably ) immigrants are possibly seen as ambassadors of that, fairly or otherwise. I, fo one, would be appalled to live in a Muslim state and I think many see that as reminiscent of invasion. I love this country but I believe it is slowly being shot to pieces by all and sundry. I want to live in a country where I trust my neighbours, whatever creed and colour. I want to live in a country where I don't want the race card thrown in my face if I make a totally innocent 'faux pas' ( remember the teddy bear incident ) but most of all I want to live in a country where the British way of life and its values is upheld in every way. |

People here in Yahoo answers flamed me many times just for asking some questions concerning moving to London!
Even when I am British by descent and my mother is "pure blood" British lol -just like vampires in Blade
Many of them asked me to say where I am and some of the mentioned that I have no right to live in UK lol
I am sure that they'll flame you if they read your profile and knew that you are a British Muslim |

No problem with immigrants who wish to come here and at least attempt to integrate into society to some extent. My father-in-law was a prime example.
The one's who simply think this country owes them something and then stand with banners calling for the erradication of all those they disagree with are the one's causing the problems. If they don't like it here there is always a flight out!! |

No way. People who come to the UK legally and their immediate family members are welcome.
Here's what bothers me. I was watching Legal TV last night, the immigration programme. All the callers were...well, they were asking questions which made me roll my eyes. The first one was a guy from Jamaica who said he'd been in Britain illegally for a couple of years but now wanted to get legal. They asked him if he had a girlfriend; he said, "yes", living with her a couple of years. They actually suggested he get married!
Next caller is a woman who can barely speak English. She said her boyfriend had been living her illegally for four years and wanted to get a British passport. At first she claimed to be a British national but after a while it was revealed she is a Portuguese national, her boyfriend is either Pakistani or Afghani (she didn't seem to be sure). They suggested the pair of them go to Pakistan and get married. She said, "No, no, no, can't we get married in Portugal like my sister did?" What's more - the boyfriend's asylum claim had been rejected three years ago! I thought, "What planet are these people on?".
The next caller is from Africa. She has British nationality, but her husband of two years is illegal. They applied immediately for right of abode for him after the marriage, but the application was rejected on the basis that the Home Office judged the marriage to be bogus. The lawyers on the programme asked her if they had appealed the decision within the allotted time; she didn't know.
The next caller is also from Africa. He is in the UK on a two year work visa (according to him). He wants to bring his family over to live. His visa expires next year. He stops the lawyers mid-advice and says, "Oh, yeah, I want to get my British passport". They point out to him he has to live legally and continually in the UK for at least five years before he can apply. He's like, "Oh, that's too long". They ask him if his employer will extend his visa; he hangs up.
It's this kind of nonsense which gives all immigrants a bad name, if you ask me. |

Yes they get preferential treatment in this country on arrival. I have been in this country 60 years. And they come first. try it in their country see what they do. |

As an American, we have the same "issues" here as you do there. I have no problem with any immigrants, as long as they are here legally and fairly.
Of course, this country was largely built on immigration, but hell, I'm one of the Natives! |

Ones with no written qualifications- i have a problem with only. They're taking the jobs that people who can't get work could have.
Silly rumours come about from people who have no problems with work, i.e. they do the jobs that British people do not want to do.. That's just a load of crap, people can't get jobs and when they try they're turned down because immigrants will work for cheaper rates. |

I absolutely do not have a problem with all immigrants. My only problem is with the immigrants who have no desire to go through the legal system and become citizens. The word illegal before the word immigrant is what bothers me! In my home state the other day 50 people became naturalized citizens - congratulations to them for the hard work they put in to become citizens. Not one of them was a Mexican! The Mexicans are now using hospital emergency rooms as their regular doctors - going there for anything from a cold to the flu - not paying and who's footing the bill - US! They have no desire to keep the money they make illegally in this country, they send it back to Mexico via Western Union - they have made rents in my community skyrocket due to the fact that 20 of them share a 2 bedroom apartment and landlords can charge whatever they want now! Is this fair? I don't think so! If they love this country so much, they should register to serve in the military and then go through the process all of our ancestors had to go through to become citizens. There is no excuse to be illegal immigrants! I have a HUGE problem with illegal immigrants and believe we all should! |

If we were the size of Italy, France, etc. then there would be enough room but apart from the obvious like schools, hospitals, etc. even the roads and pavements are too crowded - in the South (I don't know about the North). That's one of the problems of just letting unlimited people in. |

Hi there i personally dont have an issue with genuine people who are seeking to live here and wish to contribute to the society we live in. However one question is that why do they all seem to want to come here? a lot of them fleeing must pass through several european countries before they get to the uk (after all not all of them will be able to afford to fly direct) whats wrong with living in some of the countries they pass through???. Also there are a lot of immigrants who seem to arrive here and disappear and dont contribute to our way of life and systems i.e. taxes, nhs etc. I would also point out that a lot of these people seem intent on changing a lot of the tradditions of this country, im sorry if i offend anybody but when you come and live in England, Ireland, Wales or scotland you should abide by the traddions, beliefs and cultures of the region you settle in, can you imagine the outcry if 5,000 uk resisdents moved to a middle eastern country and set up bookmakers, pubs, clubs etc in the middle of a city would that be tolerated??? i think not.
Britain has historically been a multi cultural race with people from allover the world in the days of the empire (and commonwealth) flocking to the uk, however it is time we introduced tighter controls to prevent any more of out tradditional culture vanishing |

Immigrants should be screened for health problems before being allowed into the uk, also they should have a job, be skilled and be health insured too maybe then the british public will endure them rather than hate them. |

Illegal which means against the law. if you have already committed the crime by coming to a country illegally, find a way to correct it(some countries will forgive). Get naturalized, follow the rules and pay your taxes promptly. Bumper stickers and flags of your former country of nationality and loud car stereo should also be avoided. |
