Do you know what it is like to earn five dollars a day?

There are better ways to deal with illegal immigration. I understand that entering the U.S. illegally is wrong, but honestly do you really think that people crossing the border seek to endanger the nation? Numerous individuals crossing the border seek jobs. People who have a family to feed and are unable to do it working in Mexico for the minimum wage of 5 dollars a day, want to work in the U.S. If you really think that by spending billions of dollars on infrastructure would change anything. YOU ARE WRONG. If it were to be possible that immigrants could be able to work in the U.S. legally and easier trust me, there would not be that many people crossing illegally.

That sounds more like a statement than a question, but here's my response. We have only ourselves to blame for not defending the borders. The illegals are just trying to make a living doing honest work. They are the hardest working people I have ever seen. People like that deserve respect. President Bush has a practical solution in his guest worker program. As a country, we need to demonstrate that we belong to the human race.
If we want to keep illegal immigrants out, then we have to defend the borders. Not defending the borders is like putting up a Welcome sign. How can we blame desperately poor people for wanting to come here for a better life? We can't. They're hard-working people, not terrorists, for crying out loud. |

I fully understand that illegal immigrants would enter the country legally if it was easier to do so. I fully understand that most of them merely want to make better lives for themselves and their families. That does not change the fact that what they are doing is still a violation of our laws and is ILLEGAL.
As Americans, we ARE NOT responsible for ensuring that everyone in the world lives up to the same standard we do. If it is hard to get into the United States, boo hoo. There is probably a reason for it - like protecting American society by actually knowing who wants to come here.
Not everyone who applies to come here legally will be allowed, either. Some are determined to be unfit due to criminal or psychological history. Some just have the misfortune of being over the limits of numbers of immigrants set by laws. Are you proposing to just allow anyone in because it is so hard to get here??
Anything that is worth having is worth working hard for and doing legally. Life in American is worth the months and years and thousands of dollars it takes to get here. Many millions of immigrants who have come here legally agree. To allow illegal immigrants to stay just because it may be tougher back home to eke out a living is a slap in the face to every American citizen and every legal immigrant who chose to do the right thing.
Do I think illegal immigrants are trying to endanger our nation? Of course not - but that is the effect they are having.
EDIT: EverAfter - When I got married, I was earning minimum wage at the time - $3.35 per hour. I worked 40 hours per week and brought home $100 every week. My wife didn't work at the time. It wasn't fun, but we got by. |

I agree with nyskip. Protest in their own country and try to force THEIR government to change. It is NOT fair to the people that immigrate here LEGALLY, from their country and other countries. Americans that break the law go to jail or prison! If they want to start a new life here, they need to start it LEGALLY!! There are many countries that the people earn LESS than $5.00 a day, but they aren't sneaking across the border. Come here legally and I will tell you..."Welcome To America!" If you are fed up with this mess, please check out this site. Let YOUR voice be heard!

Well if it is so bad in their own country then they need to change things in their country not come here and steal from our pockets via welfare, free housing, free education etc. |

I think you are right, it is impossible to live with the mexican minimum wage, however almost no one is paid that, many employers pay more than that, very little more and still not enough, but more than that. |
|

Yo!
|
I understand your point, but if they come here legally, no one will want to hire them. Businesses ONLY want ILLEGAL workers that they can exploit like slaves. That is the one point you are missing. We don't need anymore workers here who are only willing to work for a decent wage...we've got plenty of those...businesses need slaves...and illegal immigrants are the next best thing. It's sad but true. So, you might say, then let them come illegally and look the other way....To that I would say NO! The only reason the businesses are able to pay so little to the illegal immigrants is that the taxpayers pick up the slack and pay the difference...we pay to fix our own cars when unlicensed/uninsured drivers hit our cars, we pay the hospital bills when the workers cut off a finger, fall off a roof, or get bronchitis....etc. |

do you know what it is like to earn five dollars a day?
Yes I do. I'm married.
Lets just open the borders. The money for the Border Patrol could be used to buy Mexico. |

did you know . Mexico is NOT a poor country. It has the fifth richest economy in the world, and by sending its teeming masses to our country, that status keeps on rising. Mexico has more resources per square mile than the U.S. and plenty of money to take care of its own people. Why should the taxpayers of this country subsidize Mexico's corruption |

Do you know what it's like to have hospitals close down in your town? They may have good intentions and want to support themselves but you know, and I know that they (the illegal immigrants) have a negative impact on the U.S. |

they are leaving a harder lifestyle for an easier one. Quite understandable.
But just imagine all the other countries in the world who have very difficult and hard lives, earning very little to support their families, if they all wanted to come to America. Places like China, middle east, eastern Europe; all these countries have hard lives, but they struggle and make do with what they have.
Imagine if they all wanted to come?
That being said, it must be very hard to see such a rich neighbour across the borderline and wish for a better life.
It isn't easy getting into the USA even legally but if they wish for a better life, then this is the route they should take even though not everyone will be accepted and the waiting list might take years. |

Do you realize that according to PEW research center, the vast majority of illegals entering from Mexico were gainfully employed before entering? This tells me that there is a component of greed and selfishness in the vast majority of those who illegally cross. I just read a story about how a pregnant 17 year old girl thought she could cross the Arizona desert. When asked by border patrol she told them that the longest walk she ever did prior to her failed attempt was when she walked from one side of a shopping mall to the next. There are hungry Americans too, and right now...America needs to take care of it's own...just as Mexico and other countries must do the same. |

Its not our problem its mexico's. Illegal immigration is a drain on our social services (medicare medicade.. not to mention the time and money spent trying to catch them. We have enough of our own domestic problem without dealing with theirs. |

You could use your same argument to justify stealing.
"I was too poor to buy those groceries, so I stole them instead to feed my family."
That person would be punished. So should illegal immigrants. |

I also agree with nyskip, why can't they rally in their own native country?
Hey do you remember when mim wage was $3.75? I do. Should I have gone to another country to get better work? No, I made ends meet on my wage and repected the right to leve and work here. |

Then why did these people have kids in the first place, then expect us to help them out due to their stupidity? Is it OUR friggen responsibility to help people not even citizens of this country. You think Mexico would bend over backwards for you? Hell no. Why should we bend over backwards for them.
I think forcing them to respect our laws, and force them to rally in their own country for change is better. Don't come here and exploit us! Do something in their own country to change policy. Their problems aren't/shouldn't be ours. Our problems aren't Mexicos problem. |
