If you want the economy to grow, the population should grow. The fastest way to do that is by increasing immigration inflow.
If you want cheap goods/services, the cost of producing the goods/services must be cheap. Foreigners, in a way, help keep the prices low by working for less money. People never realize that. If locals work, you'd have to pay them 10 times the amount - that would increase prices of goods, leading to inflation, and thus slowing down or retracting the economy.
Think about it logically, not emotionally.

The influx of immigration into this country has been completely disproportionate.
I still cannot understand the stance of the UK government. If unemployment in this country really is at a 10 year high (as reported on Sky News today), then is it not the case to try and reduce immigration levels????
Why bring people to a country which is struggling to get (at the very least) 3.3 million people back into gainful employment??? |

Yes, I do, but it will still be too little too late. |

i agree 100%
i have worked in a bakery for the past 10 years and till about 4 years ago it was only english workers there. since 4 years ago it has been polish workers who demand everything be translated into polish, we learn polish cos they wont learn english and many other things that annoy me. my boss hires them because they r cheaper than english workers. i HATE working alongside them they blabber off in polish and then laugh at u and it really annoys me. i dont want to leave b/c i like it there. |

The US has the same problem, not with Polish though, immigrants in general. They hate us, but aren't are jobs attractive. They send our jobs over seas and give the rest to foreigners. |

I'm not British, I'm an American of English ancestry--my last name is York--and I'm very proud of my saxon heritage.
I think that the U.S., the U.K. and the various western european nations were/are *insane* to have allowed so much immigration, especially from non-western countries. A terrible price will be paid.
November 4th, 2008, was America's "Battle of Hastings" and the saxons lost again. |

its like that in quite a few countries, the US, here in Canada. i don't think it's a problem if they are working, but if they come to live off of the government than thats not so acceptable. |

yes i do, they commit crime, i think they cause a lot of trouble and crime rate and pick pockets have increased because of them. And its true they are taking our jobs. |

only something drastic would be effective. labour will lose the next election and scotland will vote for Independence taking with them 56 scottish labour mps. the tories will have no opposition left and embark on closing the borders and repatriation. it will take ten years yet but it will happen. wether scotland decides to close it's borders after Independence is up to you. |

I think the same thing goes for mexicans here in the US. They talk perfectly, until you want them to do something, then they say "no comprende". It makes me so mad. I am sure that the problem with immigration is just as bad where you are from, so I feel for you. |

We should stop immigration COMPLETELY!!!! And kick out the immigrants who are here already.
With the economic and job situation the way it is now the government and liberals cannot get away with the excuse that they are filling empty jobs that Brits don't want to do any more.
Kick them all out, the job situation would be sorted overnight, and if there is any empty positions left (which I doubt) then we can force the layabout scroungers on benefits to do them instead. No work, no pay. Simple. |

I'm from the USA and what do you think my answer would be, I love to put a gate around my country and keep it locked, I don't mind when people come here to become citizens and get to work and follow the rules but some should stay where they are, this is my country, born and raised here and no one is going to change that, if you come here to make your own little corner of your world then stay where you came from, if you want to live here then join the rest of us as citizens and do honor to this country. |

yes they shouldnt let so many in and the reason why they are getting the jobs is because they will work for rubbish money therefore they are cheaper to hire it's a bloomin joke ! |

Hi Dawn,
Blame New Labour, they upped the national immigration quota from an already high 50000 a year to 250000 a year. Does that sound as though New Labour is worried about what you and I think about immigration? I've got some more bad news, the conservatives and Lib Dem's will continue to ignore the British peoples views on immigration if they get in.
Guess what the Lib Dem's voted unanimously for at their last annual Conference? Have you guessed? if you haven't I'll tell you, they voted to give amnesty to stay in this country to all illegal immigrants and asylum seekers, they also voted for uncontrolled immigration.
God help us!

Hey Dawn!
We have the same problem! I live in Scotland too! Whereabouts are you if you dont mind me asking? I'm way up north, and its the hotspot for Poles. I know what you mean.
Where I live, 99% of us are in jobs. I am desperately trying to obtain another to go with the one I have, because it does so little hours, yet I cant blimmin get one cos we have around 20000 up here! Argh! At work, they are a nuisance; on my first day, I had to serve dinners for people, and the Pole was a domestic. He reduced me to tears by ridiculing me and being so rude. Partner has had problems with obnoxious ones in his flat stairwell; kids were trampling the flowerbeds, screaming at all hours. Did my head in, and his. Not to mention the Pole who was driving without road tax and insurance and smashed into my boyfriends mates car. Does it not BOTHER the police he could have killed someone?
I reckon some immigration to the country is fine, but this mass is dreadful! Please can we cut down on the Poles???? They're everywhere! We never see any French up here lol. |

You have not much chance of that pet. Most of the Local Employment Agencies in Warwickshire have a Pole organising the industrial labour placements. You may guess who gets sent out on the Temp contracts. - |

People will always speak their first language when they are with other people who speak it... I give you British people in Spain as a prime example.
You cannot currently prevent Poles coming to the UK as Poland is part of the European Union and there is free movement and the right to work in any European member state you choose. There's nothing to stop you or I moving to any European country we fancy. My sister's just moved to France, for example.
Poles get jobs in Scotland because they like Scotland. Simple as that. And in general the reason the Poles get the jobs they apply for is because they're hardworking and reliable. You cannot criticise employers for wanting to take on reliable staff.
It's true that they occupy jobs that Scots could be doing in some cases... however if there is a job that is cold, messy and/ or smelly, it is hard to get as many people as you need in the local community. I used to live in Aberdeen, and a couple of the fish processing factories could not get enough staff because it's a shitty job and people just don't like working in a refrigerated factory... I don't blame them.. they are truly horrible places to work. Anyway, those factories now employ eastern Europeans amongst the Aberdonians. And they want to work because while the money isn't great for this country, it's still better than wee Tomaz from Gdansk can get back home. |
