Do you think I should be allowed stay in this country and work legally?

I am an elementry school teacher- 8 yrs experience...London and Dublin.Presently I work as a house-cleaner , it is the only job I can get as an undocumented worker in this country.
You may ask - is she crazy?But I met my b/f here, he loves it here- he is also illegal but owns his own business and hires workers.I would love to have the opportunity to teach in your great country, I believe that I would be an asset to the United States.At the moment , there is no visa system in place for me to be able to get a teaching position.It's a tough decision...obey the law return home and risk never seeing my b/f again but teach which is my passion or stay here and break the law-blieve me I hate cleaning houses!

Thank you guys for your answers and advice.Incidentally my grandmother was born in Chicago- but because my dad died young I couldnt claim citizenship on his or her behalf.Yet my uncle and first cousins can live here legally because my uncle is still alive.
Incidentally, for those of you who are interested there is no "line"- there is no channel for Irish people to enter this country and work legally yet Guatemala for example get 5000 visas per year.I know about the H1B visa, tried applying to schools and explaining process but with no social security number my applications get rejected.Unfortunately school personnel don't seem to understand immigration law...not their fault, not their department I understand that.But there are brick walls up all around.Incidentally I am applying for positions in Ireland at mo, cant waste more of my precious career waiting and hoping..have done it for 4 yrs now and I believe this issue wont be resolved til at least 2007/8.Again thanks appreciateanswers

I do think you should be allowed to stay and teach in this country. I am a teacher who recently became a citizen. Go to the USCIS website, its uscis.gov. It has down-loadable forms...you have to apply for a work permit and residency first. Believe me, its worth it and lots better than cleaning homes. The forms are very easy to fill out and the documents you need are also easy to obtain. Although many people hire lawyers...they cost a TON! I did it myself with no problems...I even filled out the N-400 (citizenship) application myself...no problems either. If you need any help you can e-mail me at gvelia@yahoo.com. you have to get your citizenship if you want to stay, unfortunately. I think in Canada you could teach if you get your work permit. I don't know about the United States.

you can get a working Visa for teaching here. First you have to apply for a job here. Once you 're sure they will hire you get your employeer to apply for you Visa. Right Now in the state of Fl. the need for teachers is in great demand. If you lived and worked here then the Goverment it'self would hire you and get you a Visa very quick. Now as far as B/f he probably could get a Visa since he already has a business and wouldnt need goverment help to sive in country. After that if he hired you again he could apply for a visa for you .

Go home and come in legally. You believe you'd be an asset, so go through the hoops to make it happen. Scrubbing toilets and looking over your shoulder is not a real glamorous life, nor is it rewarding.

"should" implies entitlement, and I'd say it isn't a matter of entitlement.

However, I hope you get residency. Have you tried private schools?

They might make you do the work to figure it out, but if they wanted you they might sign your papers.

Mr. Sacamoto you might look a bit at the break down of immigration to see where the burden comes in economically. It is not from the educated English speaking ones, wherever they come from. It does make a difference.

However, if she gets caught and they deport her, she knows that is the law. She is trying to make it right.

my aunt and uncle recently adopted a baby from India and according to them the easiest papers to fill out were the American documents. I don't understand why people don't just fill out the damn papers if they want to be here so bad. It's not that hard.

If you're a school-teacher, and working as a house-cleaner, you're cutting your own professional career short. I think you should go back to your home country, and emigrate to the US LEGALLY, and you should tell your boyfriend to do likewise.
I don't care if you've got the cure for cancer engraved on your palm, if you want to live in america, fill out the paperwork and get in LINE like everybody else. Or, go back home. If you don't respect our country enough to go through the formal steps to get your citizenship, we don't want you in our country. It's pretty straightforward. Nothing personal, but immigration's a big issue these days for the United States, I don't see many cases to make for exceptions. You're not being persecuted or under threat of death at home, so the negligence in this case is on YOUR part. Sorry. Nothing personal, but do it right, please, or not at all.

really? no visa system for you? you should try talking to a politician about it.

for all of you who think that applianing for a visa or for your green card, its not that easy. you have to wait like 5 or more years after you turn in your paperwork, and then they will tell you if your case got accepted or not. its very expensive. that is why the government has alot of money.
