Your right, this communication barrier could cost them their child's life. People should acclimate to their surroundings. If they want to be part of America and all it has to offer, they should learn the language to make the best of their life here. The problem you have here is a bunch of politically correct idiots, that have lost their ability to reason and lack common sense.

Oklahoma has just passed a law that it's a English speaking state only. This means that no State agencies will print or talk anything in Spanish. If you can't talk English, you don't get help.

Of course , anyone migrating to another country should learn the primary language of that country . It would be irresponsible not to, It's just common sense.

Of course they should!! If I moved to France, they would expect me to learn to speak their language, so why not vice versa??

Yes it does not matter where you live you need to learn,whatever they speak in the area is only good sense and the people that do not want to learn they can always go back to there country.where they do not have to make and effort.

When my grandparents immigrated here from Germany, they didn't know English. My dad was born not knowing English. When my dad started school he had to learn English as back then, they only taught you in English. There was no such thing as ESL classes. he learned very quickly out of necessity and so did his parents. I have also seen kids come here from Hong Kong(different alphabet and letter forming), and they learned to be fluent in 3 months also without any special classes. My daughter has had several exchange students with a bare minimum of English that also became fluent in very little time. I think by have all these special classes, signs in Spanish, DMV tests in many languages and even voting pamphlets is not only a hugh financial burden on the US, but also hold people back from having to learn the language.

I think that if you are going to live in any country, for any significant length of time, it is in your best interest and the best interest of your family for everyone to get a working knowledge of that country's language. That's only common sense.

If you live in a country that has a language other than your native tongue it is in YOUR best interest to learn the language. The doctor was giving this couple advise, he was not making a political statement. No one HAS to learn English in America, but it should be known that that is their choice and they should not have the audacity to EXPECT another country to cater to them because of this choice. America should help people learn English who would like to, we should NOT help the people that do not want to help themselves.

Yes. English is the language of the United States. If we don't stop this pandering to other cultures and other languages, we will find the United States will exist no more. Our common language is what unites us all. It provides opportunity for everyone. Remember if you don't know English and refuse to learn, you will never be able to attain a good education or a good career. It is sad that our government doesn't understand what the citizens do.....by allowing immigrants to continue using their language, they keep them in low paying deadend jobs.

Yes, everyone should learn the language... but if we require English language then we need to provide immigrants with the ability. I happen to volunteer at a local literacy organization that tries to teach immigrants in Florida how to speak English. The problem is that organizations like ours all over the country are severely understaffed. It appears that everyone wants immigrants to learn English, but no one wants to teach them. It's one of the biggest hypocrisies of America. We make up rules for people to follow, but then give them no aid whatsoever in living up to those rules. It is shameful.
