that pizza business is in my town and it's gone way out of preportion. it's a PROMOTIONAL deal...and it was meant for US residents who visited family and friends in mexico to "empty their socks out" and get rid of all the pesos. plus, the exchange rate they are giving is 12 to1, so...it was just meant to be a fun way to get rid of loose change...not a statement on immigration.

Not sure. But if the exchange of Peso's is made equivalent to the American currency's price, I can't see why not, unless the one taking foreign currency doesn't want to be bothered with getting it exchanged. If the seller is okay with it, then I'd say sure.

Considering that Mexico allows us to use Dollars, it is up to the merchant. Me, personally, I would insist on a more stable currency. Pesos shrink right before your eyes! They have also collapsed overnight!
Banks should only deal in US currency and as you exchange you lose value during the handling process!

Money is money & it can be exchanged for U.S. Currency. When I go to Mexico, they gladly accept my American Dollars!

If it is a privately-held business, they are welcome to accept any form of payment they so choose. It's neither right nor wrong.

From an economic standpoint, money is simply the middle-man in the barter system. You trade your goods/services for the goods/services of another, but the go-between is the local currency. To make an example, say I'm a basket-weaver. In the old days, I would trade straight-up one of my baskets to the food-grower for a ten-pound bag of corn. But using modern economics, I would sell my baskets to someone who wanted them, take the currency I receive and turn it around to the food-grower for the corn I need to feed my family. The food-grower would then use the currency to pay his pickers, who in turn would use the currency to obtain the things they need.

So, the fact that an American pizza business accepted a foreign currency is only limited by the exchange rate for that foreign currency. If he charges $10 for a pizza, then if he's going to accept pesos, he should receive enough pesos to equal $10 through the exchange rate. If he accepts 10 pesos (which is roughly equivalent to $1 according to the latest table) in lieu of $10, then he's either dumb (doesn't know his exchange rates), or shady (giving people with pesos an overly "friendly" discount).

But as long as he didn't seriously undercharge or overcharge the people paying with pesos (either an illegal discount or an illegal price-gouging), he's free to accept whatever currency he feels makes it the easiest for him to run his business.

It is legal, but I personally would boycott that pizza chain. I don't believe in accomodating the invaders, and we should do everything in our power to make life as unpleasant as possible for them within the confines of the law. And change the laws and kick out our illegal-coddling politicians as well.

And why not? Texas is a border state, where a lot of Mexican immigrants/ tourists arrive with nothing but Pesos a lot of times. And if you think that this is somehow wrong, then shouldn't we remove the dollar from every single country around the globe? Mexico allows Quetzales and pesos in its border with Guatemala.

Also I forgot to mention that people that say every other currency should also be taken are clueless of their sorroundings; Texas is a BORDERING state with MEXICO, not any other country. Just like they accept Canadian Dollars in the border with Canada. I wonder why no one complains about that??????????

I am a conservative . I could care less about what his customers pay with. I just want Illegals to be sent home until such time as they can reenter legally.

Yes I do, a business owner has the right to do as he pleases, one of the rights of all Americans, not sure why anyone has an issue with it.

The peso's value is not good. Let them take it. when it's time to turn it in, it will be current market value. Because of Visas to get in and out of the US, it will devalue. Keep the faith and move forward

The legal tender in the United States is the US dollar. Thus, paying in pesos is not allowed under the law.

no, that is what the exchange centers are for. If we did accept, that would force Americans to continually cater to others. I wouldn't expect any country that has a national currency other than mine to just take it without exchange. EDIT "right of private, not sure"

Who ever owns the parlor can take possum pelts in payment and still be legal in US. barter is not an illegal transaction and accpeting coinage from foreign country is not illegal. In Tacoma Washington is a transfer point for international exchanges , all electronic, exchanges.
What do you think was being done in Twin Towers . Smart move on Canadian example as coinage taken upon Bush election today is worth over 25% more due to devaluation of dollar compared to raise in Canadian.

Amerians have been holding millions in Iraqui currency, the new ones just hoping US will succeed as they will recieve tens of thousandd more than they paid if it does.
Mexican curency will a long with canafdian reach a parity with US if Treasury Departemtn has its way. New Dept head says US must devalue dollar to remain competative but US dollar is very very close to taking a nose dive and if it did he Peso would be worth ten times us dolar value.
Off shore banks for US treasury are buyng up all the dollars we have floating out there since Afghaistan and Iraq invasion.
Hundreds of billions of doallars just printed with no buyers of treasury securitys to back them up no borrowing by foreign poewers , just the Pentagon and a few buishite insiders needing more money . Let those presses roll.
In 70s made several hundred dolars when Canadian curency exceeded US value. Could happen again.

No, I'm sure somebody will bring a law suit, this probably violates that commerce clause of the constitution.
