Do you think serving in the Military would prove allegiance to our country?

there are about 33,000 servicemen serving that are foreign born since the war on terror began....what would the armed forces be without them?

I would like to see some of the people on this board telling them face to face that they dont appreciate their service

Generally I am against foreigners serving in our military. As with a properly constructed Dream Act, I would be ok with it for those 'truly American' kids brought young and with loyalties here, but NOT on a going forward basis. Many join the military for college benefits and training. Nothing proves loyalty to this country from that. The ZETAS were trained by us in our military, and now they protect the drug cartels. I think we'd have to tailor this properly.

I tend to believe that law breakers tend to continue to break laws.

I do not want illegals in the Military when they may have to serve along the border.

Being in this country is a privilege. EVERYONE should serve at least 2 years, and if that is too much for them, then gtfo. Why should so few have to carry the burden for the sloven masses who demand everything and give NOTHING.

Since the army has been failing to meet their quotas, they are asking that the illegals who want to serve this country be granted to do so. And those who want to are in line waiting to hear a resounding yes to be able to do so.

Lawful permanent residents may serve, and they can get citizenship expedited for doing so. This does NOT apply to illegals, as mentioned above.

I just think we need to be careful for our troops, My husband served in the Army and I live near the Atlantic Fleet and 3 other major military instillation's so I have many friends in Iraq and Afghanistan and many more friends waiting to be deployed yet again, their safety is my main concern as I know it is yours. Its a very hard question for me to answer honestly.

OTM's are my main concern, I am sure many if not most are harmless but we must always make sure we look after our troops... Very hard question to answer.

You're exactly right. Those who already have temporary legal residence in the U.S. can earn permanent residence through military service.

But U.S. military service doesn't necessarily prove loyalty to the U.S.

One problem I saw raised in an interview with one of the Pentagon generals is that some muslims who have served in our military, on discharge, have gone to teach our military techniques to Al Qaida.
They are doing their best to reform admission policy, and weed out such applicants for service.

No, Muslims from other countries could join our military in order to spy on us. This has already happend. Also, they could kill our soldiers. This has happened with an American Muslim who killed his fellow soldiers. Do you really want these illegal aliens serving in our military? Who is to say that they won't run when the fight gets bad, or shoot their officiers in the back!

Most of them can't speak or write English, so they are not qualified to serve.

Illegals becoming legal... you know, following the law of the land... showing a commitment by following the law of the land... that would prove it to me.

Otherwise, they're no better than any other lawbreaker looking for a way to live "above the law."

The law of the land is that you go through the process to become legal. If serving in the military causes them to become legal, then that's what it is... a PROCESS to become legal.

NO, it does NOT prove that they love our country. It proves that they are willing to take an easy route to become legal. And that's just fan-damn-tastic! Welcome aboard!

But note the fine line... it DOES NOT prove love or loyalty over and/or above those who choose not to serve, but still go through the slow process of becoming legal citizens.

No, we are a country of laws, and what would it be said about us when we allowed those who flaunted our laws to become indentured citizens. What would happen to those that came and they were unable to serve, would they also be allowed to stay. Each time we allow the illegally to have an exception we only encourage more to come, why should they not, knowing that we will have exceptions for many. The main reason is that we as a country need to fight our own battles without relying on foreigners to do it.

No it proves nothing. We have an all volunteer force and to use our military as a road to legal is not something that I would encourage or support. How many illegals can speak English fluently? Not many.

No. It would only prove that they are desparate enough to join the military to become a citizen. Military service is not proof of anything except that it usually means that you are poor and have no other better options.

No. It wouldn't prove anything. Besides, they're really not the kind to fight in a military. One day at war and they would be gone. They're really the more working and merchant type that likes to make money and then that's it for them. Anybody could enter the military and claim that they love their country, but if you are the one that can beat all the rest and actually work and try to be a good soldier, then that might do it. I don't really trust and illegal in the military, cause they're not really educated on anything and they don't shoot a lot of guns in Mexico.

That's why System of a Down sings, "why do they always send the poor?" i think that's why we haven't needed a draft as of yet! Sure George Bush can sign on the illegals. That least they'll be less of them around then,that's one good reason why i like illegals for!They can get themselves killed without us worrying about them stealing are jobs and what not!

i believe that if you want to become an american citizen you should have to serve or to help out in the army or your community. what good does taking a test to become a citizen do? anybody can pass a test wether you are with or against america
