Do you think the government should put Bills such as the past immigration bill before the people for a vote?

Chuck is correct! However I have learned here recently from Congress members that it is the Senators who happen to be the problem. The Senators have passed many bills, that have yet to be seen in the halls of Congress. The only thing the two sides of the Senate does is holler filibuster, and the wheels stop.

So to answer the question... I think an Amendment is over-due on this, and then the people of America will do the job(s) that our Representatives won't do, as well as continue to fail to do. Wouldn't the government run so much smoother, and we'd save on tax dollars too.

I agree, I think they should as well. Especially when it comes to such controversial topics like that. Sad that we can't rely on our senators to get a clue and listen to the people, unless they inundate their offices with emails and phone calls.....I know one of our senators, Corker TN was leaning towards voting for that bill. Awhile later he recanted and mentioned he got slammed with calls and emails. Well, guess we should be glad some of them listened anyway.

I have always thought that that would be an excellent idea. They won't do it because they are afraid to see how many of the legal voters disagree with all the amnesty bs.

Yes they should. But they should also accept our vote as what the people want and stop throwing it out and doing what they want anyway.

Yes, we should have a national referendum of those country this is and who sets the immigration policy, the voters or the illegals and their supporters no matter hard working or well intended. Also we should have second question, what is the official language of this country is, English. I am so tired of those that say that English is the not the language of this country and they have a right to have any and all in the language of their choice. Most of those who demand documents in another language, are from countries that have written in the Constitution the language of their country

Yes. Taxpayers have to pay for this mess. What they are trying to do is sneak in amnesty for all those illegal aliens. They know if they put it to a vote. It will come back about 96% against and 4% for amnesty. The government also knows they are facing a huge problem with these illegals. Most of them are working in the housing industry. As the housing slows down, they will lose their jobs. Then what? It's a sure thing some Mexican landscaper isn't going to get an office job when he can't even speak English. What do we do with them then?

Because we live in a Representative Democracy, ie; A Republic, what you are proposing would require a Constitutional Amendment to implement. The 2 sides of the Congress we have now can't agree that water is wet so an Amendment isn't going to happen.

Yes, we should. But why don't we start holding our government accountable by withholding their salaries when they don't do their jobs? We can go to federal court and get an injunction against paying the do nothing congress. Can we get an attorney to draw up the papers?

yes. From national polls we know that at least 75% of United Statesians want this issue resolved and most are for doing sooner rather than later. Let's make them productive members of out society as soon as possible.

but it would only work if people actually had sources to real factual data, not getting all their information from TV shows or the radio.

Yes.
It would be nice if immigration policy were determined by the direct will of the people.
Instead of corporate campaign-donation driven Senators who try to thwart the will of the people who elected them, with deliberately outrageous immigration proposals, that serve corporate elites instead of the nation and its people.

And it would have been nice if we had been asked to vote if we ever wanted this current level of immigration in the first place.

Isn't this why people vote and elect people to act on their behalf in Washington? Tossing bills out there with such massive voter fraud this would doom this country.

There is no federal initiative or referendum system that I'm aware of, so there's no mechanism to do that, and, it might take a constitutional amendment to create one, so I'd say, no, it's not worth it. Try electing candidates to Congress who oppose illegal immigration, instead - if you can find any, that is.

Definitely NO!!! That bill was unconstitutional as well as unnecessary. All legal provisions for protecting us from illegal immigration are currently in place. But a small majority of us might have "approved" it based on emotion. ((Actually, the people did "vote"; we contacted our "representatives" by the boatloads and told them, "NO!!".))
