Does Illegal immigration really hurt our health care?

Very much so. Hospitals are required to treat everyone. When that turns into large numbers of people who shouldn't be here, it taxes the system. Some hospitals in heavy illegal alien areas have closed their ER's to keep out the flood of illegals. private hospitals can refuse to admit non-emergency people and without an ER they don't have to deal with the emergencies they are required to take care of under the law. Its a shame. I work at my local county hospital and almost everyone walking in the front door is illegal. They don't pay taxes, don't pay their bills even if they do work, give false info and the hospital must provide care or be fined or subject to legal action. Who pays for their care? US citizens. The same ones they call racists and whoses country they piss on.

this is what is happening.

illegal immigrants come in. they don't pay taxes. they work illegally (so no income tax), they don't pay property taxes, or any other type of insurance or taxes. then they ask for all the benefits that Americans receive. so with this huge influx of poor, immigrant workers all demanding benefits, our health care system suffers. if the government follows through and gives them the healthcare, we are forced to spend more, and hire more docters to take care of these people. that means if we need more docters, we migth hire crappy ones. basically mexicans get the same benefits as citizens without paying the same taxes. they dont give, but they take.

Yes because a) they don't have insurance so b) they overcrowd the hospitals where they can go without insurance which c) causes those hospitals to be hurt financially and for people who do get medical insurance and go to these hospitals, makes them wait longer in waiting rooms and they also may not get top quality doctors.

If you are treated at a hospital or by a physician and do not pay the bill and leave the country, the hospital or physician is forced to raise prices for the healthcare to make up for the loss. Its like shop lifting, it forces consumers to pay more! :)

If anyone enters the country without the proper inoculations and spreads a dreaded disease like TB, then our health care system has to deal with that.

If they are sick or injured and get treatment, then leave without paying, then our health care system has to deal with that.

If they have families that need special medical attention and they can't afford it, then our health care system has to deal with that.

And the bottom line is that we, that is you and me, fund our health care system. So we have to fund and deal with that.

I go to Europe frequently. And before I go I must have a special insurance rider on my personal health care plan or guess what, I don't get heath care there. Why don't we do the same thing?

Because illegal immigrants, unlike those who are legally admitted for permanent residence, undergo no medical screening to assure that they are not bearing contagious diseases, the rapidly swelling population of illegal aliens in our country has also set off a resurgence of contagious diseases that had been totally or nearly eradicated by our public health system, including TB, malaria, even leprosy among others.
Also, since the majority of Illegals are not insured, they use the hospital ER's for their health care instead of going to regular dr. offices. The overcrowding in hospital ER's as well as the lack of insurance of most of the illegals that go to them is putting a major strain on the resources of those hospitals and the funding needed to run them which in turn is causing financial instability in the healthcare field. The cost of healthcare for illegals runs in the millions. In CA alone, in 2004, the estimated unreimbursed cost was $1.4 BILLION, in TX it was $ 0.85 BILLION, and in Arizona it was $0.4 BILLION.

I worked at the county hospital in LA for several years. The emergency room was full of illegal aliens seeking basic healthcare through the ER, and clogging it so emergencies needed to be sent to other (usually private) hospitals. These hospitals do not get paid for their services, since illegals have no insurance and aren't eligible for Medi-Cal, nor can they pay their hospital bills. In CA, illegals can get health care only in an "emergency"; i.e., through an emergency room, even if it isn't life or death. Pregnancy and delivery services must also be provided. No emergency room can turn a patient away, even if they can't pay for the services.
Once illegals are admitted to the hospital, the ones who can no longer take care of themselves cannot be discharged, not even to a nursing home, simply because they aren't eligible for Medi-Cal. Each standard ward has 30 beds. When I was there, 12 beds on the neurosurgical ward were occupied by young illegals who were in a persistent vegetative state, requiring heavy, total nursing care. All had tracheostomies and feeding tubes. Most were there due to gang violence and there was no hope of them waking up again. They live out a pretty typical lifespan because their organs are young. It will take years to free-up those beds.
On the neurology ward, there was one illegal I remember in particular. He had severe dementia and really needed to be in a nursing home, but, once again wasn't eligible for Medi-Cal. He had lived on that ward for 9 YEARS (he's probably still there today).
We have a critical shortage of hospital beds in CA, and this is why.
As you see, the answer to your question is "YES".

from experience the immigrants i know when they dont have ins and have doc bills and hospital bills they pay them. they work there butt off to settle the debt. but americans that are citizens that dont have ins dont give a damn if it gets paid or not. and i dont care what u say it is true im speaking on experience not bull so any rude comments to me dont mean a damn.

Illegal immigrants and the state of the health care system in the US are two totally separate issues.

Illegal immigrants DO pay taxes. This includes the usual state and sales taxes that they pay when they purchase goods and services. If they've filed for a SSN under a false name, they have to pay into the SSN pool. They however won't get the benefits of SS because they're illegal!

no they don't but these people on here will say anything to make you think they are. How about alcoholics that are on kidney dialysis who continue to drink and have no insurance. Who pays for people on welfare generation after generation? How about drug addicts and people who smoke with chronic lung problems that have no insurance???

think about it...wat benefits can they possibly get if they dont have a social security or a certificate of citizenship. They can only receive free helath care or health care benefist if they can provide proof of citizenship or residency in the United States

This means that they pay for all the medical care they receive. If anything, they are actually helping health care in this country.
