I've been in touch with a woman who lives in the Phillipines. We have been talking for about 2 years now. She recently got a job on a cruise line and says she now has a sea visa. Will this allow her to be able to travel or take a vacation to the U.S.?

No, that only allows her to transit through the US in the course of her official duties on the cruise ship. If she wants to come visit here she needs to get a B2 visitor visa. |

You probably mean a seaman's visa which is in the D classification. To qualify for D status, crewmen must intend to depart from the United
States with the vessel on which they arrived or some other vessel within 29 days at any one time.
A crewman traveling to the United States as a passenger to join a vessel or aircraft is classifiable C-1. If she was issued a C-1/D visa, she can use it to join a ship in U.S. waters. If she only has a D visa, she can only use it as mentioned above.
Neither the D nor the C classification is appropriate for those who wish to visit the U.S. for vacations. |
