Does anyone know any new news on Immigration laws?

I'm Hispanic I was born in Mexico. My parents brought me to America when I was 6 years old, I am now 23 years old. I have never left the U.S.A. I've went to schools here all my life. I met my now husband in high school and we'll be married for 3 years in August. My husband is American. Were trying to figure out a way for me to get a Visa/Citizenship without me having to leave the country. Were scared that if I leave it would be really hard for me to return. We don't have children. Its really hard on my husband to pay all the bills every month, I of course can't have a job and I can't help him with our income. All of the attorneys we've talked to have said that me going back to Mexico is our only option. I'm ready to start my life and have a career, I just want to be a normal Citizen. If anyone has any info that might help please let me know.
If you have something negative to say please don't comment.

Why would you have to leave before applying for citizenship? I thought you could apply while living here. I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. I truly hope it works out for you. Maybe try this website:

Chika, this is how it works in short.
If you entered the country illegally (even against your will), you HAVE TO leave the country at the time of your interview in Mexico. You can stay here until that time comes, then you have to go there for the interview. Your husband doesn't need to go, since the interview is only for you. During the interview the officer will determine how much time you need to stay out of the country (the punishment is up to 10 years)...but in your case, since you were brought as a kid, chances are, they will give you little time, maybe only weeks. Then you can return to reunite your husband with legal status.

Now, if you were brought with visa YOU DON'T NEED to return to your country, I think you only pay a fee and stay here until you get your legal status.

Hope this helps.

this is so typical of our illegal immigrants.you stated you have live here for 17 years, and did Absolutely nothing to get your citizenship.why are you people so darn lazy when it comes to being a united states citizen.is it because we have supported your family with our tax dollar,s, given freebie,s to you gimmie grunts, ?? i hope it takes at least 10 years before you are allowed to re-enter.you should be the poster child for stupidity.

First of all JULIO... She said she's been talking to attorneys to figure out her options so its not like she's being lazy about anything! Sounds to me like she's trying to be a good citizen, unlike you, your probably a lazy, fat, white American (or whatever you are) who doesn't do anything but stare at a computer screen all day. She grew up here in America and its a hard decision for her to just go back to Mexico, she hasn't been there in 17 years! Its totally normal to be scared of that. If the government would just give these people a chance to actually become citizens, I know there's people out there who are up to no good, but that goes for all races not just Hispanics. There's people here who have been raised to be good people and don't get the chance to live out their goals and dreams.
Right now the economy is bad and people don't know how much Hispanics actually bring a lot into the economy, without them the economy would be worse. Now about the Hispanics who can't pay their taxes well some of them really can't because you have to have so many documents to prove that your legal here, and they can't do that, but given the chance most of them would pay their taxes! There's Americans here who don't pay their taxes too! So you see theres people of all sorts no matter what the race is.
Don't be so judgemental because this country is made up of immigrants, thats how it started. America wouldn't be America without immigrants.
Chika, keep your head up! Things will work out for you! :)
-God Bless.

If you were brought here at a young age (before 18) and you entered with a visa then you dont have to leave the country at all. I have friends who have gotten married (because they were in love) and became residents within months. They were from different countries though....but they did come into the U.S with visas so if you didnt then that could be a whole different case...but i'm not very sure. Overall, good luck, and i can see you have a lot of benefits with you living here since you were 6years old.
