Being against illegal immigrants doesn't make you a racist or close minded, it's the fact that you probably just see a lot of Hispanics around in California, and you automatically ASSUME they are illegal immigrants. I doubt that they are walking around with labels letting you know who's illegally here and who's not.

People get paid more when they know Spanish because it's another skill they know. Are you not wanting people to be rewarded for knowing another language? If that's the case, then college graduates with job experience should get paid the same as somebody right out of high school. Or is it that you are just against Spanish speakers? that's another reason why people (whom ever they are) might consider you a racist or close minded.

In many countries around the world, knowing other languages is considered as an asset, something that gives you a wider horizon.

Most Americans are actually quite opposed to illegal immigration -- it's a political issue that smart politicians would play to rather than doing things like trying to issue driver's licenses to illegal immigrants as Gov. Gray Davis tried to do.

For better or worse, however, a lot of laws aren't much better than the ability to enforce them. In addition, the U.S. is no longer the wide open territory desperately in need of settlers like it once was.

Other countries, such as in Europe, are much much more paranoid when it comes to enforcing immigration laws and protecting their citizens and their rights and government services. The U.S. needs to rapidly learn the same.

One major factor interfering is that a decent portion of the U.S. economy has been based on illegal immigrants willing to do low-wage work, and if they're all booted, a lot of Americans are going to need to start doing jobs they're not accustomed to, and a lot of employers aren't going to be happy about the wages they need to pay. You'll see prices for lots of things such as food go up, but the savings for things like medical care and education, etc., would hopefully balance out.

Neither. You want our laws to be enforced and respected. After all you are expected to follow them so everyone else should as well. An illegal immigrant is not a race so you are not racist. The government needs to stop catering to illegals and allow the U.S. tax paying citizens' money to go to U.S. citizens.

It's not racist but you have to realise that speaking Spanish is a growing necessity, the marketplace won't bend over backwards to help you find better-paying jobs when you don't have the extra skills to adapt to a changing, globalising economy. That's not a form of discrimination against you since under the law English is only a 'de facto' language in the US. It's not an official language, so it's all fair game.

As for illegal immigrants burdening social services, that's wrong, but you won't be able to do anything about it. It's the sad truth. Good luck trying to stop big corporations' illegal hiring practises. Americans haven't had the spine to take a stand on any issues for a long time, be it war, immigration, torture, wire-tapping, et al.

I can't say that I exactly agree with your views, but I also can't say that you're racist. Maybe more than a little intolerant, but not racist.

First of all, I do agree that it would better, for our economy if nothing else, for illegal immigrants to no longer receive social welfare support, and technically they aren't supposed to unless they have children who are born here.

Second of all, the language issue is something I accept, yes, mainly because even though the language we originally spoke when our families immigrated here was English, that doesn't mean that all other immigrants here are going to speak English as well. Also, you need to remember that California was originally colonized by Spain, which means that the original immigrants in California spoke Spanish, not English. Also, America does not have a 'official', 'national', or 'standard' language, contrary to popular belief. Our national language has always been decided by the percentage of the population that speaks it.

Third of all, it's not that Spanish speakers get paid more, it's that bilinguals get paid more, as it has always been, because they are capable of speaking to more people than someone who only knows one language. It is NOT discrimination. Remember, we have no standard language, after all. If we did, then every states standard language would be different. California's would be Spanish, Illinois' would be French and English, maybe another state's would be just English, or maybe even a different language all together. It's not possible to set a standard language in this country because we are a country of immigrants.

Fourth of all, I can't say that I wouldn't appreciate it if the they would immigrate here legally, or learn English, but I also can't get upset with them for not doing so. Money speaks, and if you don't have money, then it is very difficult to get here legally. Also, many illegal immigrants come here with the express purpose of legalizing their immigration. Isn't it sad that it is easier to immigrate here after yu have already made the trip here.

And last, but not least, how would feel if you made a harrowing journey to escape hardship and severe poverty to some other country where you didn't speak the language and really had no one there to help you? Wouldn't you want to at least keep some part of your heritage, your language? Isn't it better to go after a dream rather then live in a place where soldiers can shoot you on site and many people live in places that would've been condemned and torn down long ago due to our building codes, codes they don't have? Wouldn't you rather go after a dream rather then live in the dirt and filth the government would clean up here, but won't there? Wouldn't you want your children to have a chance at a better a future? One where they can get the education they need? The education you wanted, but couldn't afford? Wouldn't you risk everything for a chance at a better life?
