Does change of university effect F1 visa?

I was admitted to Masters program beginning spring 2009 at Purdue Univ. Classes began on 12th Jan 09. But I got my visa on 20th Jan. I asked the admissions team that could I still join the spring semester. They said, yes, if I could reach there on 22nd Jan. I could not arrange my travel so that I could reach there in two days. So they said that I will have to reapply for fall 09 semester.
Now that I reapplied but still I haven't received admission offer for fall 09 from Purdue. However I have received admission offer from Univ of Wisconsin Madison for fall 09.
Now that I have F1 visa for purdue university, I need to know whether the same visa will suffice for joining U-Wisconsin Madison(obviously I will obtain I-20 from UW Madison) or will I have to visit US embassy for this issue? I mean will I have to go through visa interview once again?

You need to reapply for a visa to the right school so you don't get in trouble with immigration. Your visa was specific for one school and if you had enrolled you could have transferred but now you need to reapply for a new one. I also advise to get in touch with the International students Counselor at the intended school. |

Your visa will only need to be replaced before you return to the United States after a departure. As long as you have an I-20 from the new school you can take it to your consulate if you have to want to leave the U.S. They will re-issue a new F-1 nonimmigrant visa and when you apply to come in at a port of entry the officer will stamp your new I-20.
If you remain in the U.S. in F-1 status you do not have to replace your visa! |

Hi Sir, I am Dr Richa Sharma, a dentist by proffession. I had applied for my F 1 visa on 19 th of july 2010 but I was refused . So I was very disappointed and I took up another course Masters of science in clinical research, I got my Uk visa and went to study there for the first year. The university in Uk has a tie with the university in the US. So I have a chance to complete my second year in the US. Now my question is since earlier I was going for MBA Health Care to the university of findlay which was not a very famous university but now I am going to medical university of south carolina for this course which is a state university so what are the chances of getting the visa and would my changing the course affect my visa. I has almost been a year for the denial. My brother is also in the US but his course is going to end by december 2011 and he will be back so would this also affect . Pls healp me out as I am very confused. |
