Does it bother you that America is a nation built on genocide?

There are a lot of complaints about illegal immigrants bringing murder and disease. But how can that not remind people that this is how America was built? European settlers - the original illegals - displacing natives who'd been there for thousands of years.
Starvation, slaughter and entire native nations wiped out by the diseases the illegal Europeans brought. If modern Americans can turn a blind eye to their original genocide, at least they can learn the lesson that no one owns the land the stand upon forever. Nations rise and nations scatter in the wind. Additional Details I'm not suggesting current Americans bear responsibility for the actions of their government 400 years ago; I'm simply wondering if there's an acknowledgement that the foundation of the American state wasn't all nice folk with funny hats and wide collars offering beads and turkey roasts. As for the notion that there wasn't a deliberate attempt to decimate the native Americans, try forced marches, attacks on villages, lack of food, deliberate exposure to smallpox, herding onto infertile land and destruction of the buffalo herds upon which they relied. It was conscious, ongoing and ruthless. You can't build a white Christian nation with too many brown-skinned pagans around.

What happened to the Indians was terrible. And what saddens me the most is that for the most part their entire culture was wiped out. |

it used to bother me... i am a direct descendant of a controversial historical figure that has been accused throughout history of being cruel to native americans. what most ppl dont realize is that native american societies were just as cruel as any others at the time. they often displace other natives living in some areas often killing them off or enslaving them... for example, the mexica (aztec) were not native to the valley of mexico. they were aggressive invaders that gradually wrested control from other tribes in time, sacrificing their neighbors to their gods, yet they will always be associated with the valley of mexico and become part of its identity.
i think we can all learn from our bloodthirsty pasts...and hope to never repeat them... but to fault america for being particularly brutal is unfair...considering the good that america and americans have done in this world. america is slowly changing...maybe not as fast as some would like but we have a black president now and it wasnt too long ago that would have seemed impossible. so many ppl in this world are sitting in the wings waiting for america to fall but the sad truth is it will be a very dangerous world to live in when that happens.... what other country repeatedly sends its young ppl to fight for what it right? remember, just about every military engagement the u.s has been in has had either support globally or didnt act alone. |

No it doesnt bother me. That was 400 years ago.
What does bother me is people who think something my ancestors did or didn't do is relevant to me and to today and act as if I should somehow be ashamed or accountable.
I am accountable only for my own actions.
And illegal aliens are criminals who should be accountable for their crimes. |

This is strictly your opinion, based upon your assumptions and your definitions, and upon your current set of experiences, beliefs and standards. In my opinion, genocide is committed on purpose. That the indians did not have the resistance to disease that the Europeans had is not the fault or direct goal, it just happened. If the Chinese had come in and settled the Americas, the same would have happened. The indians are/were probably a blend of the survivors of multiple cultures and peoples who ended up here. One could argue the same for virtually all places and cultures on earth. The big issue with illegals is really that the government is simultaneously not enforcing our laws and granting benefits and protections to the illegals. Many indian tribes were ultimately dessimated because they DID try to use physical force to control their land and life. Yes, nations rise and nations scatter, but a nation MUST protect its lands and culture or it will scatter before its time. |

People who have not studied much history, or don't care to look at the development of mankind like to say those things. It isn't particularly correct, and in all that business up there, you present information that only our enemies would present. Casto would just love to see what you have done. But in fact, it isn't correct. And 400 years ago.. no one played with small pox, and that, along with much that you have presented sort of reeks of poor understanding.
======================================...
Per your understanding of Indian History. It is also very poor. When you attempt to apply it to current events, you make the mistake of believing the History such as Mexico presents to its people. If you want to read a critical history of the United States, get a book by one of the good English Historians and read it. You will discover there were no brown skinned pagans in this country while it was being built, and the sweat, tears and blood were European Americans. Did a good job too. And you will also discover that where the Indians attempted to assimilate into a culture of crops and farm houses, they also did very well.
Try an English Historian for our history rather than the Mexican viewpoint. Particularly where the Mexican history takes the history as Cuba presents it. |

yes, and no. It bothers me that many Americans have forgotten how this country was founded more than the fact that it was founded by genocide.
Ironically, this same shortsightedness is why this once great nation is heading toward its destruction.

Native and Aboriginal people around the world and throughout the History of Empire know this. Religion is no salvation. The Gaza holocaust ;African genocide, The Armenian genocide, The Crusades all
the blood spilled has not changed the color of greed and Evil. We the People of the US are the worlds best hope if we become the Patriots we were intended to be and kick out the cabals/cartels /bankers and perpetual CIA/pentagon wars fueled and financed by Big Oil |

your are officially the cheerleader for illegals. You have no problem with them so this can only mean that you either have one that you love or you use them for cheap labor.Because no one would want them here unless you are either a family member of one or a profiteer off of these peoples back. |
