yes, it does make someone dumb if they think Mexican is a race because it is a nationality, as you clearly stated. That's why you just shake your head in disgust when someone automatically call a person of Latin descent a Mexican because they may be Nicaraguan or something. People don't expect you to know what nationality they are, but I think they do expect you to use Latino or Hispanic.

I wouldn't say "dumb" (or for that matter, dumb,dumb, what are we 5 years old?) I would however say that there a lot of people out there who are uninformed, or really couldn't care less. either way, it shows ignorance in any person who uses words improperly.

"Dumb" means you cannot speak! Look it up in the dictionary. If someone thinks Mexican is a race, they are "ignorant" (they don't know any better). Mexican is a nationality, not a race.
