For some, I'm afraid "immigrant" has a negative connotation, so many people think, immigrant = illegal.
For others (I hope a small percentage), they really want all immigrants, legal and illegal, to leave this country. Reading their answers, they seem to be tired of black history month, chinatown, and mexicans in general. Basically anyone who is not noticably white.
Others, I'm hoping many, do know the difference between legal and illegal. But some choose not to emphasize that the fight is against illegals.
I think the fact that people who have attacked you here for merely asking the question are misguided and wrong. You're not advocating anything illegal, you were simply asking if people knew the distinction. Why that warranted an attack against you is beyond me, but I would not rule out hatred and racism as factors. As an experiment, try changing your photo to a beautiful white girl and ask the same question. Then compare your answers. :-)

Most of us DO recognize the difference between legal and illegal immigrants (and most of us also realize that there are all kinds of illegal and legal immigrants, of all races and from all countries)...but there is a small minority of people who don't, and the funny thing about that is the fact that those few are usually the most vocal of the bunch...
And I don't think not wanting illegal immigrants is racist, or in any way anti-Mexican. My mother-in-law is Mexican, and she immigrated here LEGALLY. But she's also anti-illegal immigrants. She feels they should have to wait their turn, just like she did, and just like all the other legal immigrants have... |

I know the difference. Sometimes people lump everyone together. I am against illegal immigration, not legal immigration. The majority of questions in this category deal with illegal immigration, so people might not notice when someone has a legitimate immigration question. |

Uhh yah. A legal immigrant is a person that has enough respect to get into the country LEGALLY, get a job, pay taxes, contribute to society. An illegal immigrant sneaks in, has no respect for the laws and customs of America, and has their hand out.

It is because their moms dropped them on top of their heads upon birth. They only need to educate themselves instead of acting like selfish, spoiled, hateful Neanderthals and stop running off of hateful emotions. RACISTS HAVE NO PLACE IN SOCIETY.....They are only people who steal oxygen from the rest of us who deserve to breathe. They are like volcanoes. They are nice to look at but when they spew hot lava people have to get our of the way. Dr. Z is a proud example of this. He is not even as bold as a volcano because it stands for all the world to see in all of its majesty it does not cowardly hide behind a computer screen. We must learn to accept different cultures and society to be functional ourselves. Just for the record. I am white American of mixed ancestry......Irish, German, Cherokee. I came to realize that there are many immigrants here who are legal, and I droped my old hang out crew because they generalized. Yes many Americans are simple minded, some still think there's a link between Iraq and 9/11 even though the Senate report states that there was none. So these people will think anyone not white is an illegal. |

I'm not sure where you live that this happens,but in Arizona no one would ask that kind of ignorant question.Perhaps its because of our large population of legal immigrants.The illegal immigrants are dealt with in a totally different manner,by being arrested and /or deported back to their home country.But then again they don't stand around and talk about the fact that they don't have a green card or documentation.In reality Ive never heard any legal immigrant say what you say those near you at your work say.Its simply not a subject that would come up in a conversation with someone that didn't already know that the immigrant was legal.Why would it?
Ive never in my life heard anyone say go back and come legally to some one that had a green card.I'm not sure that really happened,but I will take your word for it.
It seems that the ones with the least education or common sense are always the first to call those smarter than they are "simple minded" that's laughable . |

It's funny how everyone always trashes on hispanics. What about Russians who come over here and get vouchers for houses and cars and free food. I work across the street from the Salvation Army, all the people who go in there are WHITE TRASH and RUSSIANS (oh and they drive brand new cars). Most people don't know that MOST Illegals pay taxes, they just can't claim them at the end of the year. |
