No. There was a treaty passed that does not allow any country to own Antarctica. Now, it's just a place for scientists to do research only.

Antarctica is considered unhabited by man. With a pulation of zero..considered zero. It's basically a huge glacier. U can move there..but there are no stores at all, no malls, no grocery shopping. All foods must be imported by other countries because there is no soil to plant veggies or fruits. it's too expensive to own even if you had millions..because it's too far from civilization. If everything had to be imported into that "country" then everything would be too expensive.

No one. Prior to 1959, Seven different counties laid claim to antarctica. In that year, 12 Countries came together and signed the Antarctic Treaty, which among other things, lists that the place is for peaceful purposes only. Administration of the government is made during meetings of the Consultative Member Nations. Most of what is said is that your host country still has jurisdiction over you if you are there for scientific research. So, if you are from the US and you just claim the land for yourself, then I guess you would be charged for sedition by the Federal Government, and your *** would be arrested. So I guess you can't claim it for your own.

I think something like 7 countries have claimed it. Basically it finally came down to us all working together and sharing it for research only.

Technically, if you went there and built a house, then got some guns, and started building things and having other people go there, you would own it.

They might try to come and take it back through force, but technically you could own it.

Several countries claim portions of the Antarctica as their own, but lots of them even claim the same territory.
Truth is Antarctica has no domain, and the UN made an agreement that should be preserved as that, with no flags.

The second guy is right it is owned by a group of nations and there is a treaty protecting it.

Interestingly one of the items in the treaty says there is no disposal of anything allowed there, so people visiting have to bring their own poo home with them.
