Dual Canadian/American passport?

When I was in middle school I travelled to France with a friend who had dual American and Canadian citizenship. I remember her having only one passport, but the passport had two picture pages, one canadian and one american. I have since been told that this is not possible! Has anyone else ever heard of this?
Additional Details
I guess I must be mistaken because the way I remember it the customs official was laughing at the comparison between the two pictures (one was a really bad photo and one was a really good photo)

Politically Correct

It's perfectly possible to have dual Canadian/American citizenship but he would have owned two separate passports. He may have had them tucked together in a way that suggested they were part of the same document.
