The U.S. was always known as a melting pot because the only native Americans are the Indians. The fact that you now have to ask that question tells me that America has lost its way as far as what it stands for.

The people who immigrated here used to conform to the ways of the country. Now people are encouraged to keep their culture so that the country is becoming very splintered and broken. While I understand the intent, it is destroying our unity. Encouraging diversity started the whole thing and it is defeating its intended purpose.

Well America is the biggest melting pot in the world and about every single person has a sense of nationalism and I believe that every person, white, black, korean, short, tall, red haired, freckled, midgeted, disabled person, caucasion, latino, mexican, is as American as any person in the nation.

An American is a person who is a citizen of the United States. We are called Americans because even though there are South America, Central America and North America, The United States is the only country that has America as part of its name: United States of America.

Melting Pot - a crucible to which an external force (such as heat or other active energy) is applied to create a substance which contains characteristics of all the individual ingredients, but the end process is a unique alloy with its own properties.

Landfill - a location where rejected items are discarded to remain individual and unworkable among each other. The end result usually consists of nothing more than visual blight and olfactory displeasure. In other words, it's ugly and stinks.

America used to be a melting pot. Now it's a landfill. Multi-culturalism has no identity. On a temporary basis, it might be festive, such as a World's Fair or perhaps an Olympic competition, but on a permanent basis, multi-culturalism is nothing more than a garbage dump.

Europeans waged war on each other throughout the 20th century and would continue to do so today if they thought they could get a benefit out of it. Asians have warred for millennia and still jockey for dominance. Middle Eastern and African tribes still continue to war against themselves even within their own countries today.

Americans have the longest continuing form of current government of any country in the world, surviving even a bloody challenge to itself nearly 150 years ago, not to mention two World Wars, and even an economic global depression that led to the second World War.

It will not survive with the current embracement of multi-culturalism.

Seeing similar answers here that I've heard for decades, that anyone who is a resident of North or South America is an 'American'. I seriously doubt that the 'Canadian' here considers himself an American if he was really Canadian. Even Canadians refer to U.S. citizens as Americans, while referring to themselves as Canadians You'll never hear a Mexican refer to himself as an American. In fact, one of their descriptions of white people north of the border is Americano.

Nobody in South America has ever referred to oneself as an American. In Europe and Asia, if one refers to himself as a citizen of the U.S.or the United States, the locals will not immediately comprehend the description. They will respond with, "Oh. American!" They do not consider Canadians or Mexicans to be Americans.

In fact, the ONLY people in the world who consider all residents of North America to be Americans are U.S. residents who have never had contact with any other nationals.
