hey people i have been a US resident since i was 4 years old thats since 1996..i lived in us for bout 8 to 9 years...I moved back to my birth country, dominican republic whe i was 13 because my parents wanted me to move back so i can continue school hear but i didnt really want to move over here i wanted to finish school overthere and i wanted to continue living overthere. My residence card expired when i was about 14 or 15 and im currently 17 years of age. My residence card has been expired for about 2 to 3 years and i have been out of usa for about 4 years.My question is should i move back to usa after i finish school, by then i will be 18 or should i move back now when i finish 11th grade while im still 17 yrs. old?? will i have problems going back to usa?? will i be deported?? what should i do people?? any answers will be well granted. thanks!!

You will not lose your legal status in the United States because your card expires–your lawful permanent resident status will not expire or change. However, you will need to renew your expiring Green Card in order to maintain evidence of your permanent resident status and avoid possible difficulties in obtaining employment, benefits and re-entry into the United States after traveling abroad.

Wtf does this mean..does that mean i just have to go back to the US and renew it?

You are no longer a permanent resident because you have been outside the US for more than two years. The expiry of the card is irrelevant. Where are your parents? If they have also been outside the US for this long, they have also lost their status. If not, talk to a lawyer asap to see if anything can be done. |

I understand that you were out of the US for couple of years. You therefore, have lost your permanent residency. You could request a special returning resident visa at the nearest US consulate, but after such a long stay it is very unlikely that you will get it.

The only other choice is to start the immigraiton process all over again.

Congratulation to you , you are back to Zero. re-applying for another green card is tough since 911 and i don't think that they will easily give you another one, anyway, go to your nearest U.S. embassy and ask . Good Luck |
