Fellow Americans, do you really think that a fence is going to work?

Not at all. There are numerous ways around any fence. Our nation needs to address the underlying reason people come to the US illegally in the first place. They need jobs, and we have low-paying ones few citizens want. Pretending that a fence and draconian enforcement will fix that when many currently risk their lives to come here is not going to change that fact.

Not in and of itself.....but it will make prosecution of the crimes much clearer. Won't be wondering about people not knowing what the rules are. Won't be any question where the line is. Won't be any discussion as to whether there was a "welcome in" sign vs. "stay out"

Is leaving it open working? Obviously not. Did amnesty work? NO. Do laws work without enforcement? No. If it really was "open borders"....then why does the door only swing in one direction? If bi-lingual education is so important....are they learning English in Mexico?

If 12 to 20 million Americans came into Mexico, ILLEGALLY, would they foot the bill and meet our demands? Would their people be oh so greatful to have us there? Would the 4th of July become one of their "ethnic" festivals? Or would they be wondering when the demise of their country and culture is comming?

Personally.....this isn't a country we can work with. I don't know why they are wasting their time or what they think they will gain but a bunch of headaches.

You can't demand from others what you are unwilling to do yourself.

Yes, it's better than nothing. What's the alternative, let anyone who wants to cross the border just walk on in...........no thank you.

Not by itself. But increasing penalties for employers that hire illegals, the fence...... and deportations makes a nice combination. Build the triple fence and most will not come. We can manage to deal with the ones that try.

A fence, or wall, will not stop all illegal immigration from coming through that border.

We could wall off the entire nation and still probably have illegals coming in.

What a fence, or wall, WILL do is drastically slow it down and reduce the numbers.

A patrolled fence would work better than an patrolled field in stopping people from crossing our border. I don't understand why people would oppose our right to protect our borders or our right to decide who is allowed to immigrate to this country? Obviously there are ways around the fence, there are no perfect ways to keep people from illegally coming into our country, but it is much better than what it is now.

You'd need a Berlin wall level of security - mine fields, razor wire, dogs, armed guards, machineguns in towers - to really seal a border. And, even then, you'll never completely seal any border.

Until you actually enforce immigration laws within the country, no amount of border security will be effective.

Only as one piece. Real, and continued internal and border enforcement would be better, but we can't trust our government to keep that up the second after we stop watching.

And since we can't trust them to do it, cameras and sensors are useless. They already don't pick up those actually in custody unless they have more than a class C misdemeanor.

It is a good start. There are other solutions that need to be implemented along with a fence to improve the immigration situation in this country.

It will never be built. It's a political football and fodder for the elections. We're looking at an American Union in another ten years my friend between Canada, the USA and Mexico. First they have to let the dollar go down in value, which it is; then they have to find way to legalize the illegal Mexican, which they are; and finally they need to start privatizing out roads and transportation systems, which they are. Check out Corsi's book, The late great USA. It's a real page turner.

I say we pull 50% of the troops out of the middle East and put them on the border. Every time we catch an illegal immigrant we give them the option to go the middle east and fight for America in exchange for full citizenship when the war or their normal tour of duty is over, which ever is first. We would pay them and tax them the same as all soldiers while they are fighting for the country they want to live in so bad. If they refuse then they are immediately deported.

No I do not think the fence is the answer. The answer is to go after anyone who employs an illegal alien. A minimum of five years for the CEO, CFO, and board of any cooperation hiring an Illegal and the same for the individual. No exceptions, no pardons, no probation and if any member of the judiciary trys to get around it then hang him. PERIOD DOT END OF STORY. End of illegal problem.

I think a fence with a BP agent in view of the next would work... like an American Great Wall... and none of this slap on the wrist we just take you back stuff... there should be a punishment.. look at what we do with people that shoplift and stuff they have to wear those signs at intersections and stuff... im sure someone could think up something that would not hurt them but make them ashamed of what they did. sure it would cost alot of money but it needs to get done, i would rather have my taxes go up in order to pay for protecting my country and not paying for aid for someone that shouldnt be here...

Kevin problem with your idea is they need to have a GED in the least (most of them don't) and they need to speak English and read English (most of them don't)

Too often, something considered excessive or inconvenient or bothersome has become profitable, appealingly beneficial, rewarding, or an asset..

There are too many dogs barking at the moment , too hear, or think of, or consider possibility's, or options, or alternatives, or to even be heard if there was a positive essence about all these folks coming up here..

About the time all these older baby-boomers start retiring, and all these younger-generation begin crying because they're taxes are killing them, all this will change ..

By then, these taxed to death Americans will wish they had been a bit more tolerant, i bet.

A fence will not work. you can just dig under, climb over with a ladder, or cut thought. i can take less than a minute. fences are not the answer, especially for the cost.

If its only a fence than no, there are tunnels, and weak gaps which are being ignored.

Border security does not seem to be on anyones agenda.
