Fire my immigration lawyer???? Do I pay a remaining balance?

This immigration lawyer is charging me $11,000 for my case, he was very assuring that my husband would have his permit for work in 9 months that is why we were willing to pay this amount. The day that we were to meet with him he talked to us for about 20 minutes and he left his administrative assistant to fill out the contract ( I taught he would go over the contract with us but didn't) my husband and I started signing away without reading the contracts.
The next day we meet with this secretary to fill out the immigration forms, my husband asked that secretary "so I am going to have a permit for work in about 9 months???" she didn't say anything and somehow this lawyer overheard and confronted my husband and told him he never promised anything and he was very loud. When this was over he told his secretary "give me there file, they signed everything right?? I will get them to sign" and he got us to sign another contract. This was a month ago and we haven't gone back, because I really didn't think this guy care about our case. We sign a contract for $200 a month for the next 3 years and he was telling us that he was not going to take money out of his pocket to send our files to INS. We had given him $300 already and he said he needed at least $1000. Why tell us that it will be $200 then expect us to come up with $1000. I have a balance of $10,700 what do I do??? Please help. I didn't know the laws in CA when it comes to firing a lawyer.

$11.000...????? OMG! you should've looked at the contract before u signed. Now he pretty much can do whatever he wants.Try talking to another lawyer-but those who do the first consultation free and DO NOT sign nothing until you are 1000% sure what's the deal....
Good luck!

You need to read things before you sign them. He's already done a lot of work on your case, and you owe him money.

What kind of job do you have here that it's worth paying $11,000 to work for nine months? Please tell me what job this is that an American citizen won't or can't do.

You have to honor you contract regardless if you bothered to read it BOTH times you signed it.

You need to sit down and read it now. Sounds like you are going to pay $11,000 regardless of what happens.

Is this for an H-1B visa? Do you have a job offer? Because you cannot apply for a work visa without a job offer. And the employer is supposed to file for the work visa, not you.

And if you did not read a contract you signed, welcome to America. And see what trouble can mean.

It takes many years to get am employment based green card.

Read the contract. Generally the monthy fee does not cover expenses, so the additional $1000 charge is fine. I don't understand the remaining balance, has it already been three years? If not, you may be able to cancel the contract and pay only for the months that have already passed, but first read the contract!

The $200.00 a month is probably for his fee only. You still have to pay for the fees to file the forms with immigration beyond that monthly amount. He is correct,to file all the forms with immigration it will initially cost a large amount of money.
It is your responsibility to read the contract before you sign it. It would have avoided alot of problems.
