Are you tring to say that everybody in Mexico can work at 796 walmarts? (imagine how many walmarts are in the Us...do you see everyone working at one? Do you know how many people are in Mexico? Is there a walmart in every town/city in Mexico? What about the people who live in rural areas? What do these walmarts pay their employees? Enough for someone to support their family? You should do some more research before trying to sound so intelligent. |

yes there are walmarts. The closest one to my husbands home is a state away, about an hour drive. If you dont have a car, then you are taking several buses. They are not hiring. Those kinds of jobs are considered prestigous, like McDonalds, all the people dress nice and are very attentive (a far cry from the ones here in St Louis) and the customers at McDonalds are all well dressed business men and women. Go figure! |

As far as I am concerned, if Mexico has one or has a thousand Walmarts - it doesn't matter to us. Mexicos problems are Mexicos problems. If their pay rates and number of jobs are a problem - let them fix it. It is not out problem. Yes, any Mexican person or family can come to America to better their life, but come here in a legal manner. There are approved accepted ways for them to come to America and they are welcome if they come in that manner, learn English (like we would be expected to learn Spanish if we went to Mexico) get their own S.S. number instead of stealing someone elses and live by the laws of the land.

For your information genius we use the same symbol to denote pesos as you use to denote dollars. In case you can't visualize it sparky the dollar sign ($) is used in Mexico.
Lets do some math. 7.5 MXN/hr=0.68USD/hr. Not a whole lot. Probably a lot less than you thought huh sparky.
What's your source? Are American dollars only the ones in the United States or those used in Canada? |

What your not telling us is the cities these WalMarts are in. Once again you leave out major details these stores are not in the smaller towns; and the number of stores is not that many when you consider these stores are set up for people like you who vacation there. Poor soul get all the facts on the table before you try to prove your point. Have you seen the employees that work there? It's not the average mexican citizen, they don't even have the money to shop at those stores. It's not like here where theres 3 to 4 WalMarts in your area to shop at. Only in 102 cities; you have been there, there is more cities than that in mexico. That doesn't give alot of them employment options now does it??????? |

yes, I'm sure it's the employees that are benefitting from Wal Mart's famous generosity.

Maurice Miller worked as meat cutter at a Wal-Mart store in Jacksonville, Texas. In 1999 he approached his colleagues to discuss joining the United Food and Commercial Workers union. Every member of the meat cutting unit signed a union representation card – the first step on the path to unionization. For Maurice the reasons for this organizing drive were simple, Wal-Mart was always "asking you to work harder and giving you more responsibility, but for the same low pay."
According to another meat cutter Sidney Smith, after they signed the union cards “All hell broke loose”. Wal-Mart first responded by sending in a team of ‘union-busters’. A group of six arrived from corporate headquarters to spy on and intimidate the union-friendly workers. Three new workers were also transferred to the Jacksonville store in the hope that they would dilute the effort to unionize.
That effort failed. One of the new workers, Dotty Jones, complained that “ management was never around to correct any problems. The way they handled the meat was unsafe. It was seldom clean." She and the other new staff members were in favor of forming a union.
The workers in the meat cutting and deli departments voted to join the UFCW in February 2000.
Wal-Mart’s response was to send a message to every ‘associate’ who was foolish enough to consider joining a union - within two weeks Wal-Mart announced that they would be closing the meat cutting departments and eliminating every meat cutting job in every Wal-Mart store by selling prepackaged meat instead." |

I stopped shopping in Walmart the day of the "Mayday" March.. and shopped at the most expensive places... on that day....
Why? Well, sales were up 8% that day.. lol
I guess I did part of that..

uhm..not to be rude..but...how shall i say this? Who cares?! I just think that they should come here legally. Whether there are jobs there or not is not America's problem (Or shouldn't be). We are not responsible for every other country's problems, and we should not be expected to provide the solution. If they don't like their home country and want to migrate to ours..there are channels to go through.
I don't want to hear the sob stories, I just want them to respect our laws if they want to live in our land. And a good law to start with is: enter the country legally! |
